Join the #1 community for gun owners of the Northwest
We believe the 2nd Amendment is best defended through grass-roots organization, education, and advocacy centered around individual gun owners. It is our mission to encourage, organize, and support these efforts throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
Almost all my guns are milsurp. I love to shoot long distance. I go to Tri-County to shoot 300 yards with iron sights. (At least when the weather is nice.)
My best guns are my Finnish M39, Swiss K-31, and my Persian Mauser (98/22).
Newberg Rifle and Pistol does CMP matches at the CVSC range
at Dundee. Pretty informal, but I believe they have an
"old iron" division for older military issue rifles. Downside is
that you have to provide your own ammo unless it's chambered
in 30-06. One of these days I'm going to shoot the
match with my 1910 Ross.
I think I have figured out that I have a 1955 M44. Its very dirty and I have never fired it ( I think I got it from Big 5 for like 80 dollars). I heard the ammo was cheap for that gun and think it would be worth shooting.
When DCM was in business, you had to fire in one of these matches to
qualify to purchase available rifles. Only down side I can see with bolt
run in these events is the rapid fire reload where a magazine change or
stripper clip is used. Practice time may overcome the time loss with the
bolt run. I have seen a couple of old timers use 03s and finish under the
time allowed. It is definately easier to do the rapid fire with the semi
auto Garands or any other semi auto.
