It's just the whole TSA airline hassle
I never found that to be a hassle.
As long as I could legally carry where I was going, I brought guns.
I use the CCW app on my phone to stay informed on local carry laws.
ETA, I would often wear the T-shirt with the graphic, "if guns are outlawed, I will be an outlaw."
It was a quick litmus test of TSA and airline agents to discern on which side of the 2A fence they were.

It's the sheer volume that I travel. Last 3 months has been every week. Leave Monday or Tuesday come back Friday. I get the same thing from everyone I know who would be qualified to do my job. Man, I want your job. Then I tell them about my travel schedule and they back way off. Got a break for a couple of months coming up though.

Sounds like it would be fun for a short while and would get old after that. If you have not may be worth looking into getting one of the permits that work in 30 some odd states. It sure as hell would be nice to just have permits work like a drivers license but doubt I will ever see that in my lifetime :(

I know what you mean. A couple of years, I was in an 80% travel schedule. It sucked.

Not a fan of mini-marts nor gas&sips. Do shop one for my cigs monthly, however it's in the morning. An occasional lotto ticket when there's some massive amount, same -in morning. So perhaps less likely to be amidst some comeuppance, hopefully.

Traveling? Yah, sure. Need what's needed when whatever is needed.

I don't understand why folks shop at them regularly/daily, but am not them...
I shop at mine daily, but it's in a good area in the middle of a middle, upper middle class neighborhood. They close at 9 pm. They serve breakfast and lunch and they have a drive through.

South Carolina permits have a wide acceptance and most of the states I go to are constitutional carry

In that case be armed. Crap like what happened is sadly no longer nearly as rare as it used to be. :(
Probably for @wired it would be the extra time getting to airports early to make sure there isn't a moron at the counter.

Given how much he travels, probably has his timing figured out pretty well.

Then ad in flying with firearms around holidays? Even more time.

Dunno tho…

Out of Charleston a few years back was pretty hairy time wise 2 1/2 hours early - without firearms.

MB, no problem.

Out of Medford? No problem just a little early.

PDX or Seattle? Ugh, would likely need 3 hours+ dunno.

So, in short if he flies out of MB would be no prob. It's where he flies out of home which COULD be a problem, plus if he does multi flights a day one place a day another etc etc

That time could really ad up.

Quite a bit different than just an occasional trip somewhere…

I have flown out of SEATAC and PDX to both free states and commie states. I travel with a pistol every time, and it only takes an extra 30 minutes at most. Is it a hassle? Yes. Is it worth my peace of mind? Without question. Just because there are BS hassles in the way of exercising my rights doesn't mean I won't deal with them. Hell or high water, I'm coming home to my family if I can make it. YMMV.

I fly out of Columbia. No one is ever there. Minutes to check in. Im an engineer doing project management etc and I bring tools with me . Since hardly anyone goes through that airport they are bored and open and inspect my bags 100% of the time I get the TSA notices in my luggage. Other airports I fly back from I always show up early mostly because I hang out at the Delta club for a couple of hours having a few drinks and doing reports and breakfast or lunch.

I can look at how much I actually travel by looking at my Hilton app. 60 days this year which by the end of the year will be 20% travel. Its not that bad.

Theres a little background I left out. The day before I had gone to a seafood place. Not a good seafood place. One guy running around cooking, serving and bartending. Busy guy. They had fried catfish on the happy hour menu. It was real greasy and a bit undercooked and I had a couple of rum punches with it. On the way home I stopped by a cigar shop and picked up a couple of Padron 1964 cigars . The next day, the day of the minit mart fiasco, I had the runs something fierce in the morning from the catfish or the rum punch, I dont know which, and actually sharted myself and had to lose my underwear. We've all been there. So, I took a few Imodium. That how I managed to not crap myself during the confrontation. I had gone to the minit mart in the first place because I smoked one of the cigars and was cotton mouthed from the nicotine. Life is just a series of interrelated events.
The glory of traveling. I try to stay and eat at the best places I can reasonably afford to try to ward off the worst parts of traveling. My wife or brother for example can eat road kill and nothing affects them. I'm the opposite. I eat a day old candy bar and I'm done.

As far as your robbery reaction. Anything that works was the best action. You forgot to add where the workers gave you a free beer for saving them.

I get $65 a day for food and I have to budget that carefully because thats one half decent meal even in chain restaurants . My hotel choices are Hilton and whichever offers the highest points to stay there. I'm a Hilton points whore.

The reaction of the workers was underwhelming because they didn't know the guy had a gun. All they saw was drugged out deadlock guy yelling at them for money and then me yelling at him. . Im the only one who saw him fumbling with a gun in his pocket He didn't present it. .

I suspect that is the only reason he was not armed. Flying with a gun is "supposed to be" super easy. System was set up to be easy. As always the problem is humans are in the mix. Its why I just ship them now but we are not traveling all the time. I would NOT fly with a gun if I was not willing to get to the airport hours early just in case. I can see why this would be a PITA for someone who fly's a lot. Really a shame it is so screwed up. 🤬

Well, I gotta go to Columbus Ohio next week for a few days and I'm going to do a test. Neither my airport or theres are all that large so it shouldn't take too long . I hope.

The system is set up to be a snap. If anyone ever has a snag its some moron who thinks they have a little authority. Some of them are both ignorant and anti gun. Get one of them at the counter and it can be something to raise the blood pressure. 🤬

I don't see anti gun counter people , just morons . TSA are worse.

That is who I am talking about. Unless its changed the last times I flew with a gun I had to go see one of the TSA people once I got past the check in people. Some of them are CLEARLY anti gun. The one time I had some MORON who I am not sure what he was supposed to be doing. He overheard me tell the check in guy I had a firearm I needed to check. After being told I could not fly with a gun checked and was waiting for a supervisor with a brain this moron was standing back there telling anyone who would listen "THIS GUY WANTS TO FLY WITH GUN!!!" He had a few others in line giving me sideways looks. As soon as someone with who came equipped with a brain showed up it was a snap. I walked away thinking how long it could have taken if that one with the brain was not there that day. It was the last time I bothered trying to check a gun through. Told Wife from now on some guns will get shipped ahead. I don't care if it costs a few bucks.
