I picked up an old Century fiberglass canopy for my equally old truck, an exact fit and age. Everything is original and works but the exterior paint is faded down to the fiberglass in places and clearcoat is peeling in the rest, some very minor moisture drips on the side windows I want to reseal. I'm not looking for a full restoration, just reseal the windows and paint the exposed exterior to seal the fiberglass

The side windows come out easy showing an old worn out rubber like gasket , a complete ring, made exactly for the window, doubt I would find that exact size brand new

My questions are
  • Will round or flat butyl tape work to replace the window seal?
  • Do I need to sand or remove all the remaining clearcoat before repainting?
  • What is the best paint for fiberglass canopies?

Steele makes some universal gaskets.

You will probably have to sand it mostly down, then use a good automotive primer that's compatible with fiberglass. Then any automotive paint should work over the primer.
