I kind of wanted to avoid that because…well, I'm not sure if it alerts authorities that watch and are suspicious of buying that much? But I'm new and have no idea if that actually isn't monitored.
It doesnt. Were not being watched...

If online, try SG Ammo.
Prefer to buy familiar name brand ammo like Remington or Blazer or Winchester.

Buy as much as you want.

Thank you for the suggestion! I'll look them up right now. And that is good to know about the monitoring. Or lack there of. I mean, we ARE being monitored. But apparently not any more than normal as far as that goes. So that is good!

Yes, 9mm. And that is really helpful. Thank you! I'm going to try to see if there are any places locally that sell cases for reasonable prices. If not, I guess I'll have to buy online. So far, Federal, Blazer and PMC are the brands I've used and all have ran fine between 115 and 124. This one small box of 115 grain HPs say Sierra. I'm sure they're fine. But I will get a box of 124 HP to have on hand now, too. 😊
Great people. You will have to set up an account first buy with a copy of your state ID. As for "the man" knowing about it this is really, and I do mean REALLY over blown. Many of the members here buy our ammo by the case, its very common. If you had pallets of the stuff showing up now that might get someones attention. Even that I have doubts about. One constant with every time some kook really goes off seems to be they were sending up flares for a long time and no one seemed to be able to notice. Nice thing about SG is you don't have to buy a case at a time to get it shipped free. Spend $200 mix or match and the order ships free. Good way to try different things if some local store does not have what you want.
Since you live in the same town as Sporting Systems though if it was me? I would stop in and see what they can do for you. That guy has really put some work and his own money into trying to slow the loss of freedom for us here in WA. So be nice to give him some business :D

Great to know and I have a special place in my heart for Sporting Systems because they are where I bought my first firearm, a holster for it, several boxes of ammo and extra mags from! Absolutely agree that I should check with them about the ammo. I love and appreciate what they are doing locally for the second amendment. I may be new to owning and shooting firearms, but I know that they are very important to our rights and integral in the constant fight to protect it.

I do sometimes get odd looks from the delivery person.

Support Sporting Systems if you can. Buy online if needed. Generally prices even out close enough if you take away shipping costs.

I have had the poor UPS guy come to the place with a really angry look on his face when he is humping in a case of .45 :s0140:

Unfortunately at this time, I do live in an apartment. I am very well aware of where the connecting apartment walls are. Where my son's room walls are. But of course, I know that in a life or or death situation, I will be panicking. But in my heart, I do hope that I take account of that in those split seconds.
Then bullet selection is very important to you. I wouldn't say to not use hardball, but I would say it would be my last choice besides shotshells for handguns.

without getting into all "I know this one guy . . . " parts of it buying 1 case from one supplier will draw less attention than buying 10 (or 20) boxes of ammo from 10 or 20 different places and you would pretty much need to be on a watch list in the first place for anyone to notice

Oh, and that thing the one guy did wasn't firearms related, but it was the same kind of purchasing plan

Hardball is a term for the full metal jacket type of bullet. Often round nose, sometimes truncated cone shaped. They are non expanding and will usually keep on plowing through things like sheetrock and wall board, which is undesirable in your situation.
Some cartridges, 22 LR, 38 Special/357 Magnum and 44 Magnum in particular are available with a plastic capsule that carries a small amount of shot, as shown in the picture below.

Please tell me what hardball and shotshells for hand guns are. Thank you!
Ball ammo known as hard ball is full metal round nose. Tends to be the cheapest option. The shot shells for guns are made for killing snakes. They will do that if you are REAL close to the snake. They ARE NOT something you want to bet your life on.
For those who live with close neighbors they need to remember they are going to go their life and never have to shoot anyone. Its VERY rare. If you are unlucky enough to be one who does? This is where knowing how to use your gun helps. Hopefully you can put the rounds into the scum, not the walls. The chance you will have to shoot anyone in your apartment are VERY slim. If you have to try to make the shots hits. You are talking about saving your life here.

Can you mix ammo.....sure.
However you may experience different recoil levels and shot placement due to grain weight , +p ammo , etc....
Also something to consider...some guns prefer one type of ammo over another.

In regards to FMJ or "Ball" ammo for defense....
A long time ago in a land far away ....
I was issued a 1911A1 pistol....the Army /military can only use FMJ ammo.
I know from experience that it will work for self defense.
Is it ideal...well it was when that was what I had.
I still use it today.

However....luckily we don't have to use only one style of bullet for our firearms.
I would suggest that you find what ammo you and your pistol like / shoot the best....and stock up on that.

Another option for affordable ammo is Bi-Mart, especially if you are close to the Oregon border. A short trip saves you shipping, hazmat and sales tax. And Bi-Mart frequently offers very attractive sales on various ammo. They do charge $5 for a lifetime membership fee, but it is money well spent.

Arguably there is a magnum difference in end result of different constructed bullets.
However, In a save your life situation, having a full mag plus one is top dog, anything else is gravy.

Oh, wow! I don't think I've ever seen bullets like that for handguns. Those look like smaller shotgun shells to me. I learn something every day! Thank you for that. You didn't list those for 9mm. Are those particular bullets not available for 9mm? And as an aside, I do keep my pistol loaded when I am not dry firing in my apartment with the HP. Though, nothing is probably perfect ammo for apartment living. It's just maybe slightly better than the regular FMJs I have.

I regularly shop at the Mill Plain Bi -Mart. Their ammo prices are great. I just didn't know if they sold cases in store and was going to check tomorrow, actually. I do see cases on their website and just figured out you need a membership. But $5 is crazy reasonable! Though, I am interested in supporting Sporting Systems, too. All great options.

They do make them for 9mm as well and there are two different types of them, red case and blue case, there are also different shot load sizes and makers.
