A lot of magazines, with the bolt forward will not seat with 30. Some will not with 28. But 25 seems to be the magic number.

This was tested over time with any team I worked with, along with students in my classes. Only way to know is to try each magazine in every AR based rifle you have.
 
I agree with Steve that you need to be careful about loading too many rounds in your 30 round magazines. Steve discussed this issue in the class I took back in August. I used my D&H magazines for the live fire training and they held up quite well. I did drop the magazines on the ground several times which caused no failures for the training. Once I got home, I pulled off the floor plates of the all of the magazines I used and dusted them off with a clean cloth since there were some dirt under the floor plates. I loaded them up again so they are GTG.
 
I never load any of my AR mags full .
Just because and what was said above .
If it's loaded full you could have a PROBLEM getting it locked in .

I usually do 25 or 26 rounds.
If you are not a math wizz 25 makes it easier to count.
4 mags equal 100 rounds
