Hey guys
Here is my idea . Id love to collaborate with some other smart people on this .
Looking at how buffer less AR uppers are made it's simply not that complicated. Here is what I don't like and want to change on the available options . Weight . They all weigh too much
Relying on AR lower even though the recoil spring can be placed behind the gas piston in the handguard
So here is my idea . It would be embarrasing to attach a drawing but I might just do it is easier to imagine
AR Bufferless Upper (pistol)
Just like a AKM use a long stroke gas piston. But instead of the recoil spring being behind the bolt carrier inside the upper simply put the recoil spring behind the gas piston. It will "recoil" (the end of the spring) will go on the front of the upper
It's stupid simple and I am shocked no one has done it . For material I am thinking :
SKS gas piston
Approx 1/2 diameter aluminum gas tube
Cut the AR gas tube 1/2"past the gas block to thread directly into the gas tube that contains the gas piston :
Benefits :
Any lower can be used without ever having to think about or worry about buffer tube tower (maybe silly but opens huge door to custom ar lowers now not needing any strength at the buffer tube tower ( a critical fail point on many poly lowers )
Size advantage!! This will be extremely small profile and can experiment again with many different designs (bullpup etc) since all of the force of firing will be contained confined to the front of the upper receiver wall where gas tube would normally go
I will actually attach a horrible drawing please don't judge it is simply to get the idea across
The reason I am doing this is . I badly want a custom bullpup design along with making a prototype for a AR pistol that you can carry in a holster like a genuine handgun . This is for the outdoors where one might run into bears , other large wildlife
And here is perhaps the number one reason this is so desirable to me
Making your own poor man 500SW!!! Or any large caliber pistol you desire for next to nothing !
How ?
Buy a 50 bewoulf or 450 bushmaster. Convert to this model
You now have a slightly oversized 500SW pistol! I have made this mock up using a dead foot arms Bufferless conversion kit . You can quickly unholster this pistol and deploy it resulting in multiple hits on a paper target . No it will never be as fast as a smaller handgun or even the real 500SW but for a 250 dollar upper and some hardware store parts I think it's worth a try ! Especially since some people might never be able to afford a 1500 dollar 500 SW revolver . It is able to be holstered and it surprisingly controllable in the dead foot arms setup .it is a large revolver size . And if you ever get bored of the caliber simply get a different upper . Heck of a lot cheaper then a new revolver especially in a popular powerful chambering such as 500SW 460SW 454 etc
Number two . All of the options right now are north of 400 to 500 dollars. It would be really nice for us all to have some much more affordable options for something many people genuinely like.
P,S I am trying to upload a sketch of the design but I'm not sure it is going to work . Will keep trying
