Brand new Remington 1187 with nothing but problems

I bought a new 1187 and shot around 20 rounds through it. When there is a live shell in the chamber and the bolt is forward it's really hard to manually pull it back. It cycles fine when I'm actually shooting but when I try to manually unlaod it I have to pull back hard on the bolt several times to open it. The brass on my shells are chewed to hell when they are ejected as well. Any similar problems with your 1187?
