Give me your best experience of a carry pistol. NOT your favorite pistol but the best pistol that you have carried when it comes to what everyone is looking for in the following metrics:

shootablity
accuracy
reliability
comfort
concealability
holsters
grip/ergonomics

Let me know what you have experienced and maybe even some to stay away from!

This same question is asked many times and the answer will always be the same. There is no substitute for trying. There are so many choices now. What anyone else likes may well not work for you. It used to be fun to buy guns to try. If you found something else sell one to buy another. Those days are gone. Now it you make a "mistake" its costly to get out of the one you don't like. So best is find a shop with rentals. Try many. Find place with good inventory and handle. See what feels good to you. It actually fun and may keep you from buying something you soon want to get rid of.

Glock 19.

The best carry pistol for me is not my favorite but it checks off everything on your list but with the highest rating of concealability, it literally goes almost anywhere concealed, is a respectable 9mm, accurate and reliable thus its gone the most places. The Sig P938. My guess is most people will disagree but everyone has different needs of concealability.

My own J frame Revolver gets High marks except in Shooting comfort and Shootability. If I do my part its accurate, but it only holds 5 rounds so I better make those count. and its pretty snappy with defensive ammo. But those negatives are more than balanced by its ease of carry, it fits nicely in a pocket,
I could not ask for a gun more reliable. And I could not find another gun that fits my hand better!
Just about any holster maker will make something that fits. And it conceals most anywhere I want to carry. DR

In my opinion, the best carry pistol is the pistol you carry.
Familiarize yourself with whatever you have, master it as best you can, feel comfortable, and move on.

That being said,go Browning Hi-Power!

Without answering this specifically I firmly BELIEVE one SHOULD carry a gun they are familiar with, they shoot often, and are comfortable with it's function and operation and NOT something because it is necessarily small, light, and maybe 'easier to conceal' because this could negate all (or most) of the 'metrics' you listed.

I have handled and shot some guns that are so uncomfortable to grip, shoot, and incredibly inaccurate but were 'touted' as great 'carry guns' by their owners ONLY because of their design and size.

Reality being what it is a gun with a longer barrel, and maybe a bit heavier with a FULL SIZE grip might be slightly more difficult to conceal but will be MUCH more practical if it is a gun the owner shoots often, and is comfortable with.

I read (and hear of) FAR too many stories about people who do NOT regularly shoot their carry gun because it is 'too uncomfortable to shoot' due to recoil, handling, grip whatever but isn't this what WE carry for?

OK, I am a fairly tall, slender fella (6'2" and 190 ish to a couple lbs over 200) and I find carrying a 1911 with a GOOD holster to be MY personal favorite and best for me. I also occasionally carry a CZ 75 but the double stack mag gives it a bit more 'width' than I prefer but not bad.

Bottom line is my NEW RIA 1911 9mm with a 10 round mag gives me what I believe to be adequate capacity in a SLENDER design that carries well.

If I HAD a choice (and it were available) I WOULD have gone with a 'Commander' length but 3/4" is HARDLY a factor.

Probably the best holster I have EVER owned. Bianchi Hi Rise.

Welcome!!

I get asked this question a lot from acquaintances, where if they have a friend looking for their first gun or first carry gun. For carry right now, I usually recommend the Sig P365. It is just the perfect blend of all the requirements you listed above, and the modular nature of the gun allows you to change out grip size/length etc. It is also super small and compact for as many rounds as it can carry. I have owned at one time or other just about every carry size gun worth its salt, and in the end the p365 is what me, my wife, and almost every friend of mine carries on the daily!

Bodyguard 2.0. I shoot it well and it is very small, so I can easily conceal it. My wife absolutely hates it. I sent the slide off for an optics cut and hopefully she likes it better with a dot on it.

I'll second the sig p938. It's super easy to pocket carry and it's a 9mm. If I'm not packing that I have a 365 with an Alabama pocket holster or a crossbreed super tuck depending on attire. I keep them both in my Fort Knox pistol safe loaded and ready to grab and go.

That's easy, G19.

Snuff out a dinner candle at about 30'. Just the flame, with open sights. It's probably the one pistol I've shot the most. Did some competition shooting with it. Carried for a few years as well.

Second would be the S&W 642, can pretty much call each shot at similar 30' distance. Current carry, has a few thousand rounds through it. Great point shooting snubbie…
