Aloha, Mark

I passed it. But went in on a Friday. So, it seems they didn't get the answer until Wednesday. Called me then to say I could pick it up 10 days from then which is August 31st. I think that turns out to be 15 days. But I get the weekend and probably that Friday I applied didn't count.

And that is interesting about the insurance. For the gun, I take it? Do I just look up gun insurance in Washington?

Thank you for the information! 😊
The insurance is for you when you are carrying. Sort of a liability policy. If you should have to use your gun for self-defense, it will cover a lawyer and a bunch of other stuff, to get your legal defense going without breaking the bank. There are WA state laws that make it difficult to sell such policies in this state.

Hey @sobo, here's a carry insurance question. Jade, Sobo is very well versed in this. Nice guy too. One of my favorite NWFA members. Hopefully he'll respond soon. He's been a bit distracted lately.

Here's a membership program that's not insurance, so the state law does not apply: https://ccwsafe.com/

You can also hire a lawyer and keep them on retainer. The retainer fee is usually not terribly expensive, but once your attorney is on the clock, $$$.

Phenomenal information and advice! And that sounds like a truly smart move. Being that I'm sure most of us have firearms not only for fun, sport and hunting, but also personal and home defense. And I do imagine that it would get quite expensive to defend ourselves when we are legally defending our lives. Anytime a life is lost, I know that there is a lot involved. Lawyers and court and paperwork and just realistically and unfortunately, people trying to find a reason the self defense was "unnecessary" or overboard or some such nonsense. I really appreciate all that information from you and everybody who has helped me out since I have started this journey and joined this forum. I do truly wish I had entered this community decades ago. But I am fully invested now. Thanks again so much! I'm going to look into so many things on my days off! 😀

You're more than welcome. We love new shooters here. You are the future defenders of the Second Amendment. It's a constant fight and probably will be for decades or centuries.

Here's a video that I usually recommend to my students. Mas Ayoob is one of the most highly respected authors on self-defense.

"Distracted"... that's a pretty "PG-13" way to put it, Floppy... :s0140:

FYI, CCW Safe is not available in WA state...

Thanks, Flop, and hello, @Jade Terfin! Welcome to firearms ownership and the responsibility which that entails!

Regarding carry insurance in WA, there is now currently only one insurance that you can buy that operates in this communist-run state, and that's US Law Shield. The only states that it's not available in are Alaska, New York (go figure  ), Maine, and Rhode Island. The reason it's available here is that it defeats Mike "Pedo" Krieger's blockade of so-called "murder insurance" because it operates on a different premise than does legal aid insurance from outfits like NRA, USCCA, ACLDN, etc. I used to have USCCA until King Jackboot Jay, Sideshow Bob "Turd" Ferguson, and the Pedo Krieger outlawed it about 5 years back. I wandered in the carry insurance desert for a few years, and looked into US Law Shield.

In the end, I didn't buy US Law Shield. The way I cover myself now is that I got ahold of the attorney that USCCA used to use for their program and who lives and works in my town, told him I used to belong to USCCA before they got outlawed, and gave him a $2,000 retainer to hold if I ever need his services. Sure, it ties up a coupla grand forever, but WTH, I thought it was a valid expenditure if I ever needed it...

Thank you for the welcome! And please believe me when I say I am taking firearm ownership very seriously. I could have just Willy nilly bought a gun and THEN went to practice with it, or maybe not at all if people ever do that. But I took an introduction to pistols class and five personal lessons before even making my purchase. I know the incredible responsibility that comes with it even though I've never owned one. I want to be a responsible gun owner and a good representation of why the 2nd amendment is our right to never be infringed. All that said, I know there is MUCH to learn and experience to be had. Which is why I joined here at the recommendation of the firearms instructor who has probably 40 years of experience and training. Knowledgeable dude! One of the tops! So glad to have had the honor to learn from him.

I actually didn't even think of having insurance until it was mentioned here and now that I've heard it, that makes a lot of sense. It's sad that Washington is doing so much to make our right harder to exercise. But I guess we should never give up and push back even harder. I think these forums are great for community engagement since most of us are probably pretty busy and I don't see much hope for coming together through the big social media platforms. They are so oppressive that I hardly engage there anymore. I peek and reshare things. That's about it.

But sorry about that rant…lol. 🥴 I could say so much more about it that could get "not so nice". 🤐 Looking into the insurance is on my list of many things to do! If I had $2,000 to spare, I'd look into the lawyer. But that is out of reach for now. And thank you so much for taking the time to type out and lead me in the right direction! It's exciting to know I will finally be an official gun owner this Saturday! 😀

Chloroform and zip ties perhaps....Wait....wrong forum...so sorry.... :D
Andy
I don't know why I always get funny looks at the hardware store when I buy rope, zip ties, tarp, duct tape and a shovel.

Well, truth be told, my bed has latticed head and footboards and I have a nice set of silk ropes... and yet she still comes over almost every night... :)
