My opinion, for a production gun, hands down, yes.

Don't get me wrong, Colt has had some bad press and years but overall, I consider Colt the standard with SA right behind. They were an inovator in modern manufacturing with the onset of MIM and plastic injection. If there was a possible shortcut to save money and be more competitive in the market, Colt explored it. Colt learned what worked in the shop and testing and limited production sometimes they ended up with egg on their face.

Series 80s get a bad wrap in my opinion. Granted, it isn't really needed and it is the lawyers getting involved in something they don't need to poke there nose into. Alot of problems with the system come to light by someone wanting to improve a specimen by adding a trigger with a trigger stop without checking the Series 80 firing pin lock and timing as needed.

I own 4 Colts 3 S 80s and 1 Series 70. Bought 3 of them in the mid 80s. The Commander was picked up about 10-12 years ago for basically what I spent on a Gold Cup in 86. Probably 75-80% of today's "Production" manufacturers were not alive then. Tlock, this includes your beloved Kimbers. 🤣😂😁

Since leaving the service I attended a build class and have compled 4-5 builds on Colt, SA or Caspian frames and have another 3 that are in various stages of completion.

Just for the record I only have 2 kimbers....5 Colts, so I am still ok for the kimber to colt ratio. 0 sigs!!!!

What's the deal with Colt 1911s really? My LGS owner seems to think they're the cream of the crop and I know there's plenty that would agree, but I've also seen a lot of posts showing poor machining/finishing, referencing periods of low quality throughout production, stuff like that. And it seems that some of that is expected in association with the brand, so why the great reputation if they're known for that?
I was a TAD coach at the 29 Palms Rifle Range in 1977-79. The pistol range was my favorite coaching assignment. The 1911A1 was our issued weapon and what I taught. At the end of day , the pistol range coaches gathered to shoot the remaining ammo. We got very good. There was an intramural match one year and I came in 12 out of 250 entries. Not the best, but I got 246 out of 250, not a brag as there were 11 better than me. That was in the Marine Corps. Today, without that practicing, I'm lucky to stay on target! Now, I have a 1911 (WWI) frame with a 1940 Brazil Colt slide and new barrel. Bench-rest at 25 yards with fixed sights it can shoot a center target bug hole! 1911 vs 1911A1. The factory 1911 Colt pistols with fixed sights were accurate! Now, when I say 1911 that is to differentiate between the pre-1927 1911 and the post 1927 1911A1. I like early Colt 1911s and their inherent accuracy.
One thing is we would teach our M16 rifle students to aim at the base of the bullseye with front sight set for a four inch hit above point of aim at 200m. First, It allowed you to see the space between the base of the bullseye and white paper vs wandering around the center black. Second, the bullet drop out to 300m was about 2 inches so you were dropping bullet strike right into point of aim. At the end of the rifle range TAD I returned to the 155mm battery I was TAD from. There we fired 155mm rounds with continued accuracy. Just a big gun! MOS 0844. One, two, three, four, United States Marine Corps!

Why is it that we have these new members that jump on here, ask quasi devisive questions, then we never hear from them again? Is is because it's the same person with a bazillion accounts coming from the same IP address? Discuss...

I sold it, bought it back and then sold it again.
Off topic but I laughed when I read this!
I've done this exact thing 6 times, Walther PPKS, Sig 225, Sig 229, Ruger Lipsey's S.A. .45 LC/.45 ACP, S&W 63-2 (I regret selling that Smith) & a Dan Wesson ECO.
My wife had an uncle that married, divorced and re-married the same woman, at least I havent done that (yet).

I've got a Colt 1911 that I've owned three or four times and a Winchester pump as well as a colt saa that I've owned twice. It happens when you have friends!

I'm not sure why, but somehow I got the idea into my little brain that I need a Colt Mustang.
Cool little guns, I've owned a couple Colt Govt. .380's, the downside for me was the tiny sights & caliber so when Kimber came out with the Micro 9 I bought one and it's one of the few guns left in my very scaled down collection.
