I recently ordered some stuff, less than $75, that came from Canada. It arrived no problem. Then, a week or two later I started receiving texts and emails from Fedex that I owed $35 in tariffs! At first, I thought it was a scam. Why am I getting it AFTER delivery? What happened to the other countries paying them? However, now I've received a letter from FedEx with copies of the tariff bill from Homeland Security, so it's real. Anyone else get one of these? Do we have to pay them? What happens if we don't? Why aren't we notified and asked to pay before delivery? An almost 50% tariff is also just insane--it's something that won't ever shift production to the US, so it's just a new tax. It's also not just the money--I now have to write a check, fill out a form, stamp and mail it all back; another PITA. This whole process is freaking stupid.

Forward the bill to:

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, D.C. 20500

There's a wealthy twat residing there who can cover it and is the responsible party.

As you probably already know, other countries don't pay the tariffs. The importer pays the tariffs. FedEx is the importer and they want to be reimbursed. Buy American and that will solve your problem for future purchases

That's a crap deal, dishonest? But? On the other hand. Screw Canada! You could contact the biz, tell 'em you're done with them and name them so we don't mistakenly get screwed too. A lot of us sort of voted for that so....?

I will thank you for contributing to my tariff check, once I recieve it. But for now that check is MIA.

I'm not sure how many "voted for this". I mean it was sold as something that we wouldn't pay them, over and over again. I can understand a long-term strategy of tariffs to re-shore production. But this ain't that. It's a specialty product that isn't available here that my wife loves and it was for Valentine's Day. The hassle alone is ridiculous. But, yeah like a 50% tax on a small thing? C'mon now.

Well we knew that Trump was going to work on getting manufacturing back into the U.S. via tariffs. And the other choice was to destroy even more manufacturing in the U.S. and have everyone even more beholden to big government for their needs.

It should be a crime to not tell you up front that there was 50% that you were responsible for. I'd like to know how much this happens to people!

It wasn't the Canadian co. that implemented/enacted/enforced the tariff.

People are getting what they voted for.

And the people who voted for Trump believed the lies of a con-man/felon. They have no one to blame but themselves - any halfway intelligent person knows that the country that implements an import tariff is the one that pays it. C'mon now.

Yes.

To be fair to the foreign company and FedEx, this tariff crap has been all over the place. The guy doing it is unpredictable, and the policies can't keep up with his whims.

Pay the tariff and move on. Remember the "big guy" is unpredictable and prone to random, sudden policy changes.

Something still doesn't add up. We have always had tariffs. As Americans our products usually are unfairly tariffed. Through either buying motorcycles in the 80s or other high-end products, I never heard of after the sale demand for payment.

You know all that air we breathe comes from across the pacific.
And it carries Mercury that falls on us. The State of Oregon addresses this by telling farmers they must prevent water from running off their fields into streams - In Western Oregon! The Mercury comes from coal-fired power plants in China.

Think about it. The State wants farmers to hold Mercury on cropland, increasing the concentration there for future crops to absorb. Just so they can say that they are addressing the problem.
