There is a "map" going around claiming 74 school shootings since Sandy Hook.

What constitutes a school shooting?

How about an estranged ex ?

How about a craps game at 9pm ?

How about a someone being chased by police who runs on to school grounds?

Yes this is a Blog - but feel free to do your own research:.

Here are 33 Questionable Entries on the ‘Viral’ Everytown Map of All School Shootings Since Newtown http://www.ijreview.com/2014/06/146537-everytown-map-74-school-shootings-since-newtown-goes-viral-33-questionable-entries/…

I see that the link is burred in another thread - on Obama's comments.
I did't find that before I posted, @mod's if you decide to close this one I wouldn't object, even tho the map was not specific to the President, it is tied to his supporters.

@everone I do think it is important to be talking the same language when having discussions.

Quick - in the FBI numbers, what age is a child?
Are those the same ages InterPol uses?

How many of those tragic child deaths from gun fire are really vice shootings - drugs, gambling, prostitution, etc?

Careful now, you're calling for factual, unbiased reporting of governmental policies and statistical information.

Something that few university journalism courses teach these days.

Has anyone looked at some the "school shootings" they are using? It looks like some of Obama's sons are "turning their lives around."

Consider the Cesar Chavez High School shooting which happened after a basketball game:

Here's a picture of the suspects:

Or the Carver High School shooting which happened after an "ongoing dispute" between Christopher Lamont Richardson (seen below) and Antwain Deshaun Porter:

Or the Elizabeth City State University shooting where they are looking for these suspects:

Did CNN just call Bloomberg’s ‘Everytown’ group liars?

… CNN’s analysis has focused on just 15 of the incidents on the Bloomberg group’s list. Those appear to be genuine school shootings, as opposed to the remaining 59, which may be questionable at best. Of course, 15 is too high a number, say <broken link removed> activists, but it is nowhere near 74.

By now I'm sure many of you have seen the twitter-length claim of "74 mass shootings since Newton" that has been repeated without questions from Bloombergs "Everytown(tm) for Gun Control Gun Safety". I think most people have also noticed that a lot of news agencies are taking it at face value and not really checking the source. Not that "everytown" provides much more than a sparse list and vague descriptions of a handful of events.

People who started to look at the "gun-sense" statistic and started to find (see the first link above) that a lot of these claims were a bit bogus. But these could be easily dismissed (by the average gun-control advocate) mostly because the average american citizen wasn't going to see it.

BUT, CNN (not exactly a pro-2nd amendment news agency) decided to take their own look. The results? Only 15 shootings (and even that was pushing it) that met the intent of a "school shooting", in the context of what happened earlier this week in Oregon. 15 out of 74. That's (15 divided by 74 times 100%) a 500% exaggeration! I'm suprised some people at CNN didn't try to bury the results, but there it is.

500%

Ya, I know. Shouldn't be very surprising. But then again, this is the same Bloomberg circle of friends who tried to claim one of the Boston marathon Bombers as a "gun violence victim". Remember that? ended up 1 out of every 12 on the list was easily confirmed as a criminal shot in the commission of a crime. Bloomberg did eventually apologize for the "mistake". But only after it became painfully clear they were misleading.

Just something to keep in mind during your next conversation with your neighbor or school function if the "OMG 74 school shootings!" comes up. That, and a mention that armed school resource officers are what bottled up and stopped the shooting quickly. Just like in Arapahoe High school, Colorado, shooting. It ended in 80 seconds due to the presence of an ARMED school resource officer.

Another link for the "boston bomer is a gun victim" claim.

Note: I dropped a condensed version (headline and links only) to drudge. Lets see if we can get this info out there to the general public!

"If Everytown for Gun Safety used a definition that was overly broad, we found, CNN used one that was too restrictive."

"We decided to look at the question from another angle: In how many of the cases did students or faculty face imminent danger from an armed assailant on or near school grounds? By that measure, 35 roughly match the situation at Reynolds High School, where a shooter was on campus during school hours."

So, bloomberg wants to fight a statistical war? 11 of his "mayors against gun violence" have been arrested everything from bribery to child porn. Is this the people we want to give more power to?

It seems odd to me that anti-gun groups are using photos taken by open carry activists to try to get businesses to create policies against open carry, yet those same politicians would have someone wearing body armor, with a full auto machinegun standing around every airport, trainstation, subway platform and think that's ok because they're on the payroll. That duplicity really drives home the message: guns are not our problem, control is their problem. I'm sure if elliot rodger had applied, he would be feeling up women at a TSA screening checkpoint right now, or watching their naked bodies from a "secure location".

I'm glad bloomberg was successful in arranging the purchase of more indulgences. But as it turns out, the media is only willing to broadcast you flagellating yourself for so long before everyone starts to get bored. Has he changed his name yet to Pious the Magnificient or something yet?

Still too broad. The statistic we're looking for (if it matters, which it doesn't) is "school shooting," not "school imminent dangering."

None of the "informal poll" offerings really covers it - though if "Gun-related incidents involving only students, faculty and staff" were altered to "students, faculty, and staff being shot (or shot at and missed)," that would be a decent definition.

Still, it's time to take better control of the conversation. These aren't "School Shootings" and should not be referred to as such. They're "Gun Free Zone Shootings." The Liberals need to take personal responsibility (which they HATE, at least for themselves) for establishing areas where predators can be assured of easy prey.

The Everytown - or CNN - stat needs to be compared and contrasted with an equivalent statistic of how many shootings there are at police stations, which are decidedly NOT "Gun Free Zones." There have been, what, two or three of those over the past year? That means it's something like, what, twenty times more likely that someone will be shot in a Gun Free Zone than in an area where firearms are known to be carried.

The science and logic seems pretty straightforward to me. :D

Armed America Radio to challenge Bloomberg group’s data

Three days after the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms blasted Michael Bloomberg’s so-called “grassroots” organization, calling it “Every Liar for Gun Safety,” tonight’s edition of Armed American Radio (AAR) is promising to put the proverbial frosting on that cake by “exposing the lies” of the billionaire ex-mayor’s gun control front groups.
