5.56/223 ammo

Does anyone use the 223/5.56 ammo from bi mart in the 420 round cans?
what grain are they and i hear they are green tip?
I am wondering how good the quality is on these.

They have it all the time; The price is believe is $149.00? I could possibly be wrong, but that number sort of sticks out in my mind... (420 mini ammo can)

they said they sometimes have it as low as $139 but usually $149 per box.what is ss109? 55gr?
does it shoot dirty?

SS109 is 62 grain. SS109 is the Nato round. XM855 is the US made round which is a hotter round. Not al Nato firearms can shoot the Xm855 round..

The NATO round is hotter (higher case pressure) than the .223 that's why 5.56 can't be shot in some .223's
The .223 can have a longer leade than the 5.56, so it might not fit a 5.56 chamber.

really? i never heard that,i knew 223 cannot shoot 5.56 nato but i thought 5.56 could shoot all 223.

Something I picked up off another website and saved.




A SAAMI spec .223 Remington chamber will have a shorter leade with a sharper angle to the leade and a shorter amount of effective freebore than a 5.56mm NATO chamber. The freebore itself will also be narrower in the .223 Remington chamber.



With all other things being equal, the 5.56mm NATO chamber with its longer and shallower angled leade and longer amount of effective freebore will produce less chamber pressure than a .223 Remington chamber, when firing .223 Remington SAAMI Spec ammunition. Because of this, 5.56mm NATO ammunition can be loaded to a pressure that would be considered excessive in a .223 Remington chamber, yet acceptable in a 5.56mm NATO chamber. (Pressures are measured using different methods between the two systems, so a direct comparison between the two is not practicable.)

Respectfully, that green tip mild steel bullet is not armor piercing. Armor piercing 5.56x45mm ammo is black tip M995 ammo.

You can shoot .223 out of 5.56 barrel (chambered), you CAN NOT shoot 5.56 out of .223 barrel (chambered)

I wondered why their was a "black tip "offering. I just thought the black tip was depleted uranium.
So why a mild steel green tip "penetratior" and a black tip AP?
