They use the 10mm as BUG against Grizzly's in Alaska! (not 45ACP or 40S&W!)
Sounds like that answers that question :)

We used shotguns with slugs, 44 magnums, or 454 Casulls.

The 44 magnum has about 1000 ft-lbs of energy. Chamber pressure tops out around 38000 CUP. Hot loads can get you 1200 ft-lbs of energy.

The 454 has almost 2000 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Chamber pressure tops out around 60000 CUP. The problem with firing a 454 Casull is it is really hard to be in any shape to fire a second round.

I don't recall a single person in my 22 years in the biggest state who thought a 10mm, 45acp, etc was even worth carrying in the woods.

Now, I think the 10mm is the most powerful of the group mentioned in the title, but none are grizzly protection.

For protection against people, I prefer a 45acp only because that's what HK makes my favorite gun in :) I think itf you hit a person in the right spot, 45 vs. 10 wont really matter.

HK makes an "HK10" and I'm all over it. :)
