Seems you should have fired an established hollowpoint in the exact same media for comparison. But I don't think four plastic jugs with liquid in them is a very good medium for testing expansion. :s0092:

That said, I remember making my own hollowpoints when I was a teen and it never really made sense.
 
Yes, water bottles aren't a very good test medium. Legit tests use ballistic gelatin or similar. Or hog cadavers. They used to test bullet performance with layers of one inch pine boards but blocks of gelatin were found to be better. Exploding water bottles look spectacular for a second or two but there's no science to be found in using them for this purpose.
