.32 the caliber time has passed by?

  • No way, José! Very much viable, I particularly like [fill in the blank] ...

  • Might be a little over dramatic, but yah, it has fallen by the wayside. Still a workable option.

  • Pretty much. The thirty-two is a niché item, at best.

  • Of course. De facto dead. Why are we having this conversation?

I own both .32 and .380. I prefer my .380's hands down. The .380 seems a bit more potent and zero recoil with my Llama. Just an opinion.

Some outliers don't change the metric.
Actually, the U.S. Army had a "Generals Pistol" in the '20s>'30s, IIRC it was a .380, it looked kind of like todays Mustang, carried for dress occasions.
Kind of like General George sometimes carried...

Patton's personal sidearm from the portion of the film before he earns his fourth star

The Colt 1903 .32 and the 1908 .380 were semi-automatic pistols issued to U.S. general officers from 1944 to 1972. I'm sure some saw service prior to 1944.

Considering the location and text of the thread, it is a little weird autos keep coming up:

But, who am I kidding, I love .32 ACP / 7.65㎜ Br autos. When in Rome, or NWFA, or ... I lost my train of thought. Little pistol / rifle in said is good; wife likes as carbine. :s0155:

Look, I might own 4 revolvers in 32, but I do not know the number of autos in .32 I possess. Several FFLs have discussed that I might have a Problem with love of this Caliber

FN 1910
Colt 1903
Beretta 81
CZ skorpion
Ruby
Walther PPK
Mauser 1914 x 3 (in my defense, 2 of them were on gunbroker for 39.99 and 49.99)
Mauser HSC
and I am sure a few more

"10 Shots Quick"

I had one way back when, 30+ years ago, that was surprisingly accurate, but I foolishly sold it. I found this one a few years back as a replacement, but it's nowhere near as accurate.

If Ruger made this in .32 H&R Mag, I'd be a buyer.

A 3" S&W J-Frame would be acceptable as well.
You might like the SP101 they produce in .327 Federal Magnum:

It is a blued, six-shooter, with a 3" barrel and adjustable rear sights, that will happily digest .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32 H&R Magnum, and .327 Federal Magnum. (I've found it will, generally, though not always, shoot .32 ACP as well. Though shooting those was mainly for the giggles.) Packs easy in a holster and I've found speedloaders that work with the Smiths (e.g., 31—1, 632 UC) and Webley Mark Ⅳ also function with the Ruger.

An SP101 or J-Frame Smith with a 3" barrel is an easy packing gun and a lot of fun to shoot. I think one in 327 would be neat. Six shots, pick your power level.

.32 is not dead! I reload and shoot my '92 Winchester SRC whenever I can. Now it's .32 40 and not a powerful as some mentioned, but its a tack driver with that 20 inch barrel. No ear protection needed.

Ok, enough talk about a .32!

I want one ! I'll be keeping my eye open for one in .327 Mag.

I'm thinking maybe a SP101 as I have ALWAYS considered one (passed on a 3" .357 several years ago, Grrr...)

I like the Ruger SP101, although I don't own one at present. My first was a .32 H&R, which I liked a lot. Subsequently, I bought a .38 Special, a 9mm Luger, and a .327 Fed Mag. I liked the Fed Mag the least. The .357 would likely be an uncomfortable gun for me to shoot, in that small of a platform. I like the older, all black grips, don't care much for the later ones with the "wood" inserts.
