300 win mag

I just traded to get a standard sporter Winchester m70 in 300 win mag. What are some of your favorite loads?
I still have a 308 for little blacktail so this will primarily be for elk or longer range plinking (cough,doubtfull very much,lol).Maybe some Idaho hunting.
Anyway I'll be looking for dies next year so I can roll my own.

In general, I use RL-22 for the 300. 165gr Accubonds go a little over 3100fps with my load. Hard to say what will work, every gun is different. Couldn't get Barnes to group well without excessive pressure; couldn't get Sierra BTs to shoot at all; 180gr bullets worked fairly well, but I'm of the notion that speed kills. Go look around the innerwebs for something that looks reasonable to you, and start from there.

Well cheapo Federal softies did fairly well today while seeing if my scope was on,so I'm guessing I'll be able get good accuracy from it with hand loads or better factory ammo

I run 168gr HPBT on 75.5gr H4831SC. 3100 fps out of a 28 inch barrel. The 168's are a little light for consistent accuracy (for me, and my rifle) past 900 yards. Before I settled on this combo, I had amazingly good luck with the 180gr Remington green bag soft points that Cabelas sells, on some H1000. They shot really well at 100 yards, and shot MOA at 400 yards. Never tried them on game, so can't comment on that. It's lots of fun finding the recipe that works

I would add that a couple of boxes of cheapo Winchester is a great idea. Keep the brass and you're halfway there.

Mine likes an even 75gr of RL-22. Easy to remember for an aging brain.

here are my favorite loads for the 2 bullets i use. shot a deer with the ttxx-rl22 load from about 100 yards and the deer was dead before the bullet even hit him.

I haven't tried reloading for my LH late 80's 700 KS mountain rifle yet but that thing sure does the business on deer and elk. I got an elk this year with a 400 yard neck shot (prone across an alfalfa field, everything just lined up right) and a mulie last year that just fell over dead from a heart/lung shot at 65 yards. I love me some 300 win mag.

I've shot 75grs H4831SC behind Nosler 180gr. AccuBond or Particians for years.
H1000 is my second choice, it is also a very good 300 Win Mag powder.
The load I use with H4831SC should be worked up to, I would start at 73grs.

A stout load of RL22 & the 180gr Partition PP is bad medicine on elk, in my experience. This is through an older LH Savage 110 & a BAR Stalker. H4831sc & a 165gr Speer grand slam are quite accurate in these guns as well. Good luck!

I hunt with a couple of guys that shoot 7 mag w/140g and my 300 with 150g nosler shoots flater and has more energy at 400 yards. I love my 300, it is a older Winchester model 70 and with the 150 it is very accurate.

71gr 4831sc behind 180gr barnes triple shock is one hell of a hammer on elk,also here that you cant beat r-22 but i havnt tried it pick one do a latter test at 200 or 300 yards in .2 gr increments from lowest to the point where you get pressure signs i.e flat primers.i like to shoot about twenty or so rounds all into the same paper ,pick the powder charges that group around the same area and load another 5 rounds of a charge weight in between,try them if there minute of deer then start working on oal.wait atleast 2-3 min between rounds.keep track of your shot hits on an identical target on the bench.make sure your counting the hits.
