Can make your own brass from 308 brass... size & trim (it's a big trim job!!!) A motorized case trimmer works great
That's what I was afraid of. I don't even have a .300 savage die yet, I'm exploring all my options before I start hacking .308 brass to fit. But… that might be my best option.

Before I was able to get my hands on 300sav brass, I chose a particular 308headstamp, so I don't confuse it with 308 brass. It's still a doable technique... I thought I saw rcbs dies around pdx metro... maybe even used.

I bought factory loads and reloaded from there. Sadly good 300 Sav loads aren't common because manufacturers want to use the same projectiles that their 308 loads use which are often not suitable for 300 Sav

I have a two die set and about 50 deprimed brass plus maybe three empty factory paper ammo boxes, Yours for $25 if you come to Beaverton to pick it up. PM me if interested

I inherited a model 99 and I'd like to find some "affordable" ammunition (laughable these days) or some brass to reload. Any ideas? Every place online I've found is charging $3 per roun
I originally bought three boxes of 300 Sav. ammo when I purchased my Sav. 99 in 300 Sav. back in the early, 80s. I've made all my own brass from once fired 308Win. and 7.62 NATO brass ever since. It's an easy conversion, especially if you're using a chop saw a jig https://www.ebay.com/itm/154322509931

I've probably converted around 500 pieces of brass over the years, and although I do occasionally shoot a jacketed bullet or two, my Sav. 99 mainly gets a steady diet of my cast lead bullets.

You nerd.

Guys like you make for good drinking buddies. Good stuff man.

OP, the 99 is a great rifle. May you enjoy yours for many years and then hand to your kids.

My first 300 Savage came from @ageingstudent, and included a bunch of native 300 Sav brass as well as converted. Great cartridge, I've purchased two more guns in it since.
Like @Reloader762 , I've only converted brass since then, shoot lead in my 99's and jacketed in my Model 81, though my Model 8 feeds on a steady diet of lead.
Converted 308 extracts better because of more bevel above the case rim.
I use a cheap harbor freight chop sat to shorten the case. It makes quick work of the conversion.
