It's basically 300 RUM or 300 Weatherby. 180gr bullet at around 3300 fps, what's not to like?

No personal experience with the Dakota, just the Weatherby. It's a shoulder muncher and forces you to keep your eye relief discipline on point.

Is anyone but Dakota Rifles chambering it?

It's kind of funny and interesting seeing all these .300 calibers out there, some of which may considered "exotic", and offer little to no advantage to a run of the mill .300 RUM, Win Mag etc.

Are the 'Ultra magnums' even still 'in vogue' ? Similar to the WSMs?

I remember in the late 90's a co worker had a hard on for a 7MM RUM and went out and bought one.

Nice rifle, A Rem 700 'Classic' if I recall but it seems a lot of these 'designer calibers' eventuality disappear and not much more is heard of them.

Seen this all my gun owning 'life'. Probably forgot about more of these 'designer calibers' than I remember...

Not sure, don't hear much about the RUM loads myself or the WSM and I've never owned such a rifle in that caliber. Mostly have used .300 win mag if I was using a Magnum .300 loads. What's interesting is the RUM cartridges are based on the .404 Jeffery non-belted magnum cartridge. Beyond that, don't know a whole lot else about them.

I think the 30 Nosler is based of the 404 Jeffery as well and would probably have similar ballistics to the other mega-magnums.

Makes sense since it's based of the .300 RUM to begin with. Not that old of a round, since 2016.

If I was to do a RUM caliber, it would be in 338 but then again, I'm no longer in AK.

I pondered the 375 for a second but then reflected back the H&H has been killing stuff dead since the turn of the last century. I'm also set for life with the H&H, 2 rifles, 4-500 PCs of brass, 6-800 bullets.

Besides, I've got a 416 and a 458 Lott. I'm waiting for that T Rex to show up.

Yea, that is a pretty rare proprietary caliber. Might want to float that ? On a sight geared towards Africa.
