1911 conversion

Back in the late 60's I had the opportunity to buy a colt gold cup nat match 1911 that had one of the oddest mods I've ever seen. The safety lever would cock the hammer when pressed down to the off safety position. It had no safety function whatsoever. I was told that it was owned by a police officer once and he had the conversion done.
Anyone know what this mod is called or have you seen one like it? I personally shot the pistol and it was very cool. Not very safe however.

I have owned and build 1911's for over 40 years and have never seen this 'option' .... sounds a bit unsafe to me ... JMO
