Let's go back to the .17 WSM. Anyone have one yet? Report? 200 yards "real world" accuracy? Minute of Rat? I have never been varmint hunting but the .17 wsm looks to be a great entry point.

Rifle Magazine did an article on the 17WSM, and the Savage gun. Accuracy results (if they can be trusted), seem to exceed that of the HMR. The gun, however had a couple glitches. Magazine was not reliable on insertion, and if not done with attention, fell out twice during firing.

Besides that, the gun is not really very attractive. A box of shells showed up at the Portland show two weeks ago, at $40. (Retail should be, according to Winchester, in the $15 range, once the ammo crisis passes.)

Personally, I ain't goin' for it now. Will wait and see who else sticks their toe in the water with a prettier gun. Interestingly, another recent article in Rifle documents the demise of (nearly all) the Short Magnums (centerfire). Gotta be careful what you hitch your horse to, if you shoot only factory ammo (and rimfire dictates we all do).
