You've already got a good number of replies.

Really doesn't matter 115, 124 or 147 if they'll reliably feed and expand. I believe most 9mms come from the factory sights set for 124gr bullets. I shoot mostly 115, but many 124gr as well.

For self defense I always go with Federal HST or Speer Gold Dot (the gold standard). I would not feel underpowered or under protected with either one.

Lots of good information here. A couple thoughts I didn't see mentioned (maybe I missed it)
1: consistency of recoil has a lot of value. If you shoot enough you will get familiar to a specific recoil feel and speed. The value of this is that you can better shoot at speed because you know how the gun performs. You need to shoot on a regular basis for this to come into play.
If your shoot regularly there is value in shooting the same exact round.

On another note there is value to a "snappy" round. It comes back on target faster than a less snappy round.
Again…..you need to shoot on a regular basis to receive this benefit
