ALL the countries above America have 100% gun bans .

It might be of interest to note that Switzerland also has NO MURDER
OCCURRENCE. However their law requires that EVERYONE own a gun,
    Maintain marksman qualifications and "carry".
    ..WOW! Eye Opening!
They'd have us believe we are barbaric gun fanatic killers here in the US !

actually there are a few that allow limited types of weapons and a couple that have similar gun laws to the US but the grand majority dont allow any firearms.

Is there a link to this? I will GTFI too. I think it is a great post, I hope it's accurate. I can't believe Haiti is 7X less likely than Dominican republic but maybe...

im pretty sure this is for 2010 but it does show a relatively accurate model of how the world looks when it comes to murder. the W.H.O. publishes lists like the every year but only some of them get curculated as they should.

Here are some relevant links if anyone feels like doing some number crunching in Excel.

List of Countries by Intentional Homicide Rate (Wikipedia)

UNODC Homicide Statistics (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime)
The UN page has data from 1995 to 2010, although the 2010 data is fairly sparse. The spreadsheets show all sorts of interesting stats on:
    Overall homicide rates
Homicides by firearms (counts and rates per 100,000)

I would not quote the United Nations for any data. Its like quoting the guy at work that lies about everything. UN is a very questionable source and I would not legitimize them as a source. Their motives are questionable.
    Just saying.

True, I'm no fan of the UN, but I don't know of any other data source for worldwide homicide rates.

the only thing that i would discount for them is the amount of data they are sorting through. its hard enough to collect that kind of data for one nation, let alone every member of the UN. the numbers could still be a reliable ball park if nothing else. WHO is a bit more reliable considering they arent known for political belief so much as philosophy and medical research. but the numbers for the US in Josmi's post are accurate, so it doesnt look like its terribly far off.

I attended a mandatory brief at work a couple months ago. It was surprising to hear that suicides in the US double our homicide rate regardless of the murder weapon.
