I just saw something last night about Lone Rock Timber closing their lands to recreational use effective today due to fire season being in effect.

We've already had two fires within the last month, in our neighorhood. One by a careless guy with his burn pile, and another by a powerline crew. And it's not even the dry season yet. Yes, I'm getting prepared...

It's popped off pretty good around Jackson and Josephine Counties. Oh joy, another fire season.
TVFR had a temp burn ban, lifted it, but 6-15 was the end of the burn season anyway. We've had a few sprinkles here lately, so most everything is still green enough to not be a danger - yet. I've noticed a few grain fields are ripening and some of the clover fields are drying out. I expect some harvesting/mowing of grains & hay to start in a little while - that usually results in a field fire or two due to equipment or cutting hitting a rock.

I've been mowing around the house when the weather allows, but the grass is still very green. Come Aug/Sept., when the grass turns brown, is when I will get serious about mowing.

Very wet mostly overcast first day of summer. The sun came thru for a few minutes a few times, but just now there was a pretty good downpour here on the mountain. Upside is that everything is wet and green. Downside is that this means there will be more fuel later on when the weather turns totally dry for weeks on end and that green fuel will dry out and turn brown. Late summer to early autumn will be when I am watching for local fires hoping we don't get a replay of Sept. 2020.

I was looking at a report from the Oregon Forest Protection Association that lists the fire sources for the 2024 season. One item that caught my attention is the category "Firearms" that shows 15 fires totaling 4,116 acres.

I remember at least one fire in the recent years, up by Molalla, that was serious and caused by shooting. I don't see any lists online to research the 2024 numbers. Does anyone here know?

Yep, spent part of my day listening to dispatches, fire fighting aircraft & smoke jumpers dealing with a bunch of lightning caused fires on 2 meter radio.

It will no doubt be worse after the thunderstorms yesterday. Had quite a few that came up from the south and headed northward up both sides of hwy 97.
