Urban Legend from the Navy days last century:
The CO of some US warship thought it excessive for MAA (Master at Arms) patrolmen to carry black batons as part of the uniform so he banned them. The Security Officer's response was to requisition and distribute 5-cell Maglites.
------------------
I like that even a 2-3 cell Maglite can double as a handy cudgel in a pinch.
And I understand they're being sold with much brighter LED bulbs now.
My question is, do the modern ones still project that annoying adjustable-size black shadow in the middle of the beam?
