I can get an AK 47 with an FN barrel from PSA or an SP5 clone From MAC for around the same price. Around 1K. I could get the real deal HK for about $2500, but I don't;t want to go into debt, even if it is only for a few months. What would you choose?

Mags are cheap for the AK, and I already have a few. The mags for the HK are 40 bucks each if I get the SDS/MAC mags and 70 each if I get the HK mags. I would need 6 total. Also the 9mm ammo is cheaper.

I might be able to even get the PSA AK and the MAC. But then I am close to the price of the HK

Opinions?

I'd go with the real deal, but I also wouldn't go in to debt for a new gun.
Yeah, If I don't get the real deal, I can be completely debt free by June. I might save for the real deal, but need to fill out what I can by March. If Ibgotbthe real deal, I wouldn't be debt free until September. And, the real deal would be to nice to lose if I actually had to use it for defense.

If you get the AK now and buy cheap mags, good. Then buy MAC mags now and stock them, so in the future you can add the SP5 clone, already having mag supply.

We are getting down to the wire here. There isn't too much future left. I have until March. This will be 4 guns total between now and March 14th.

I have a handgun coming, in a couple of weeks, a Ruger P Series
Another SAR 9 (which is so cheap it's like buy two mags get the gun for 100 bucks)
a 10/22 of some flavor
And the MAC will make 4

And if I can pull it off, there is a single shot trap gun with adjustable comb and ported barrel as well.

Oh and I've got two AR lowers coming with the zruger.

Have you thought about buying less cheap stuff and turn 4 guns into 1 nice model? Would make affording a genuine HK much easier.

I would recommend buying the mags first, then saving for the quality guns. If M114 get implemented in March, yes it would suck to go through a permit system, but at least the guns can still potentially be legally purchased through that process. That wont be the case with mags. So i would stock up on those first, and then save.

I agree with @TTSX , it is very tempting to buy a bunch of the 'value' guns, and I am not knocking them- i think both are great products, and if that is what someone can afford than fantastic! However if you are able to swing it and save for the real deal/quality, IMO it is worth it. I used to have a bunch of 'value'/budget guns, but have sold them all to consolidate for real deal quality. I am fortunate to be in a place to do that. However I cringe when i think about how much money I spent getting there- you NEVER make your money back reselling a PSA etc. So it may cost you more in the long run to just get what you want in the first place.

And IMO NEVER go into debt over a gun. None of us need an extra gun THAT bad. Guns are luxury items. Having said that, they are also an 'investment' of sorts- where if i suddenly had a huge bill/expense, could sell them. Yeah would take a big hit, but they will never have zero value either . . .

Meh. Prove I bought the magazines after the ban. Don't buy PMAGs, they have a date code.
The way I understand M114 is written, YOU have to prove you bought them prior to any ban- onus is on the defendant not the state. Obviously you could smuggle them in, but if caught could have legal ramifications. Yes we all say we dont care and wont follow it, but I dont know that I want to be the test case. Especially when right now you you have time to buy them legally.

Burden of proof being on the accuser is pretty well established. Enough so that I'd imagine you could challenge a charge based on that alone

It's not exactly that big of a concern for me.

I would just wait and pick up the real deal when the situation allows it. Getting anything else might leave you right back where you started in a few weeks/months.

I would pass on the long-in-the-tooth P series Ruger (Maybe get an RXM instead?) to put the money to a more ergonomically advanced firearm, with better features....or to stock up on anticipated magazine needs. Buying now, even at the price of small added debt is a worthwhile investment in future freedom, IMHO.
I also think an AK is a worthwhile investment, but would go with a WASR 10 over the PSA for very little, if any difference in price. Gunbroker or Atlantic firearms is your AK friend.
