1940s WINCHESTER hatchet for sale . Nice shape had a collector look at this and said he has never seen 1 exactly like this made by Winchester . He had all the old Winchester tool catalogs and this exact one was not in them . ive looked all over the net for years and have never seen this model . might trade for factory ammo

That looks like an old roofing hatchet for installing cedar shake shingles. You cleave a shingle from the cedar "round" (or custom shave a shingle for fitment) then use the hammer head to drive the nails, it even has a claw for pulling out nails.


My grandpa had one very similar to that one.

It is its for trimming the shakes .for fit . splitting from a round was usually done with a froe . but a guy good enough could use these.
