So you're telling me I need to miss a couple weeks of work, drive my butt to Utah and pay the Mormons $2200 to shoot a small horse? $5k for a couple hundred pounds of meat....
Maybe. OR... you could be like my brother-in-law and nephew who paid for a guided elk hunt in Idaho, riding into the wilderness on horseback, spending a week, and never even laying eyes on an elk. Their trip wasn't quite as expensive as the Utah hunt mentioned, but I suppose there is the chance you could end up with the same result.

Ive read some hunting forum threads on unsuccessful guided hunts. Man thats gotta be the ultimate downer.

3 elk trips in the Imnaha unit, zero elk seen, zero elk killed. Lots of sign... of wolves. I'm pretty done with week long elk "hunting" for a while. I'd be extra mad if I got goose egged a thousand miles away

42 this year and I have never killed a antelope. I'm not sure what unit to even put in for, poinsaver again this year I think
I'll be 64 next week and just the one antelope tag. My dad didn't hunt them, so I didn't start applying until I was in my late twenties or early thirties. We've been doing point savers as well, giving my son time to build up his seniority at work until he gets more vacation time. I'm retired, so I've got plenty of time to hunt.

I've hunted that unit as well. Man, when the wolves have been in there, the elk are scarce. One year I spent 11 days in early bow season and saw exactly two elk. They were standing in the road when we were headed into town to replenish our food and beverage supplies. Worst. Hunt. Ever.

IMO Whitehorse. Killed a nice buck there last time, never seen so many speedgoats. I have 16 points for that and thats where Im going again (but probably not this year...). Ive filled 2 tags but the other was in a crappy unit, I got super lucky close to the end of the hunt.

Ive started lurking on hunting threads for oregon pronhorn, seems like Whithorse hasnt changes but theres very little info out there. ifish forum has a few threads on oregon pronghorn that are more current within a few years anyways.

I know they started using some of my old co workers to fly the speed goats spawning grounds. They are stacking the number of coyotes up pretty fast, lion work too

Ive never hunted Imnaha. Im 1 elk for 6 years in Starkey so dont feel too bad, the hunting pressure has increased so much its really hard to get on them. I know of a couple herds, had a spike only tag one year and only saw branched bulls. The next year drew the any bull tag and went back to the same spot, saw only cows in the herds, last day 1 spike but not a safe shot. Last year went back again, got onto fresh tracks of one of the herds but it started snowing and its high country and it snowed so much we had to break camp and move to lower elevations. Hunting pressure down there was insane.

I coulda dropped this guy 3 different times on that hunt....

We used to bow hunt Starkey. That also got pretty crazy. Our first years there, probably around 2000-2002, we hardly ran into anybody. By 2015 we gave up completely and moved elsewhere. The number of people running around on quads was insane, as was the number of huge RVs and travel trailers.

Can I just say how much I love names like "speed goat"

It's simple, gets the point across and makes good sense without getting scientific about it.
