Here's a Boomer story for you all.
Winter of 72-73 in John Day it was only -7, but the wind chill put it down in the mid -20s. I didn't live close enough to ride a bus, so I walked to school. Even the kids in the bus were freezing, but they didn't have to deal with the wind.
The coat hooks, shelves above and the floor below was absolutely the largest pile of coast, gloves, hats, sweaters, etc. I wish I had a picture of that.
Around here they would probably close the school.

Dude, I occasionally have to work on walk-in freezers and freezer warehouses that are -20*F- -30*F.....

🥶

We were hunting elk one year and Uncle Ted went out of the trailer to take a leak.
He came back in and said, "It's hard to pee when you have 5 ply of clothes on and you only have a 2 ply wiener."

I used to drive by Western Boxed Meats on Argyle. We would be whining cuz it was in the 30s-40s and those guys would come outside and warm up!

You can remember that far back?

Coldest I ever dealt with was -45° in Bear Valley west of Seneca. Holy craptoid!
I did have to go out in the -36 for a little bit to feed the livestock. I was on my way back to the house when I heard the generator trying to start. Yep, power went out! The generator battery didn't have quite enough umph at that temperature and it gave up so I had to grab a battery from the shop that I keep n the charger for just in case. Jumped the generator and got it going so all in I was out in the cold for about 45 minutes. Thank the Good Lord above for Carhart Arctic gear!

I count the years and I'm surprised, too!
I have a vague memory of unwrapping a Tonka Jeep on my 2nd birthday and several other memories from that time frame. I remember lots of things, some I wish I could forget.

When Linda and I went to John Day to look around at houses and properties last March, we took a drive up to Seneca.
I told her that no matter how nice it looked that day, we DID NOT want to live there! :s0114:

Yeah, we broke a cold record 2 years ago. Then back to back La Ninas. I told my friends this winter will be much warmer and wetter than normal back in August. Coldest so far this winter was -2 couple days after Thanksgiving when I was hunt camping.
