I'm in Beaverton and am looking for a place to have general service done on my 2020 Tacoma. I am not impressed by the dealers and on the West side.

Any suggestions on dealers a bit less dishonest than the norm, or independent shops would be appreciated!!

Milex in Wilsonville is great. Beaverton Toyota is less shady than other Toyota dealers I've visited.
Thanks, but Wilsonville shafted me so bad on a recall that my 2018 ended up sitting at Beaverton Toyota for nearly 2 months before Toyota authorized the correct repair.

I later learned the Wilsonville location had been purchased by a Canadian company. The service manager was in my face and poking me with his finger. Ultimately I had to walk away or end up in an altercation, as I was walking away he started calling me a coward and other names.

Unbelievable experience for me. In college I was the warranty administrator of a large dealership then my last job before starting a real career was as the service manager.

I suppose it's having seen just how criminal some of what happens in service departments is, I'm a bit more vigilant, so when I got shafted by Wilsonville it came out of the blue.

I hope to find a good, knowledgeable independent shop. I currently go to Royal Moore but I just don't trust them a whole lot more than Wilsonville.

I've always had good luck with Olson Brothers on McLoughlin if I can't/don't want to do it myself. For electrical problems,
Electric Specialists right accross the street is the best.

That's too bad. I haven't lived in OR for years now, things change I suppose.

Unless it is service under the warranty never take your vehicle to a dealership.

Technicians who fix cars under warranty often feel like they get screwed based on the fixed rates for warranty jobs. They tend to jack up customer-paid work to offset that.

I would also welcome recommendations for a shop in Beaverton/Tigard area to work on our 3 Toyotas. Go to Beaverton Toyota for an oil change and they will try and sell you a bunch of other service work. Like they recommended a cabin air filter for my wife's Rav4 for 163.00. A 20.00 part and 2 minutes to change it. She knows not to authorize any work without checking with me first.

Another in this category. A couple Toyotas in the fleet. While I handle much of the service work myself, there are times where I either don't have the time, appropriate specialized tools, or inclination to handle certain stuff. And I've had mixed results dealing with the local Toyota dealers -mostly when they were doing the "free" services provided for the first 2-3 years on a new vehicle.

I'd like to hear experienced recommendations for a local shop who does good work on Toyotas for a fair price.

May I ask what precipitated that interaction? Just curious my my daughter and son-in-law purcahsed a vehicle there recently.

Its really sad when shops pull stuff like this. With the net now they are really only hurting themselves. For the quick bucks they made shafting someone how much do they lose from word getting around?
The dealer I bought my last new car from pulled one on me that meant they saw the last of me for life. Needed the 30K go over. Great hoax had just got rolling so they would not even allow you into the place. Handed me a paper to sign and I should have read it but did not. Went to pick up car they had charged me to rotate the tires that had been put on the day before. Charged for a new air filter that had been changed 2 days before. I figured OK, my fault I did not read the damn forms but no way the people doing the work could not see what was happening. So I hope it was worth it as they will never see me set foot in the place again. :s0092:

There is a good shop in Albany but like all shops it isn't cheap. Crabtree automotive does really good work and I have used them for years. My 4 runner has been kept in great shape by them. I have used Toyota dealers in the past and they waste your time like they own your time.

Realize every shop makes money by selling you a service you may not need.

My 2018 Tacoma had an issue with the collision avoidance system, there was a recall of sorts, Toyotas avoids that word and calls it something else. My truck would suddenly stop for no reason in heavy rain. I had this happen during rush hour traffic on I-5 amongst other places.

There is a "radar" or so they call it sensor behind the Toyota logo in the grill. The sensor was not sealed properly, when water got into the sensor it would create problems such as I experienced. The recall said to replace the sensor if the vehicle had experienced events such as mine, this was because water was in the sensor, if no problems had occurred, a covering was put over the sensor to protect it from rain.

Rather than replace my sensor, Wilsonville performed the least expensive option, covering it. So, they did not perform the repair correctly but reported to Toyota all was okay.

While the truck was in for this service, I received a call about my alignment. The call came at a bad time so I didn't ask questions I would normally. When I picked up the truck and reviewed the alignment report, there was nothing out of alignment to begin with, no adjustments were required. I asked the service manager about this, his defense was that they had not told me I needed an alignment but that they recommended it. Then I discovered they had not followed the Toyota service bulletin on the sensor issue, and they refused to properly repair it. The situation went downhill fast when the service manager said I was stupid for being so gullible.

One rainy day after the incorrectly performed repair, I was driving down I-205 near 84, the dash lit up like a Christmas tree and the truck came to a panic stop right there in the middle of traffic, I was lucky to not have been run over.

This led to the truck sitting at Beaverton Toyota for two months before Toyota finally replaced the part which I later found I could purchase online for less than $400.00.

There is a problem with warranty repairs that goes beyond reimbursement. Manufacturers factor low warranty repairs into the hold back payments on new cars, this is an incentive for the dealership to deny claims.

Based on my last (admittedly, very limited) experience, I can say.......

Don't go to Vancouver Toyota.

Aloha, Mark

PS.....BUT, But, but....that doesn't mean that I wouldn't buy another Toyota.

Skip Vancouver Nissan as well. Cluster Eff of incompetence.
No shop is more dishonest than Hannah though.

Wouldn't recommend Gresham Toyota either. Brought my 2014 Tundra in for an oil change, paid about $60 only to realize they didn't change snot and instead did an inspection. Didn't realize this until days later when I looked at the invoice. By that time it was already too late and of course the Service Manager wouldn't do anything about it either. F-ing POS.

I have a cousin that works at Honda of Beaverton and if I need something done on the Tundra that requires a little more complexity other than the usual fluid change, brake rotors/pads, etc., I go there.

Back to your original question, sorry but I don't know any mom and pop shops nearby.

I bought my 2018 Tacoma from Gresham Toyota. We worked out a deal, which they deliberately made exceedingly difficult as they were trying to make more profit when Toyota was offering a special at the time. It was the typical nonsense dealers play, and took about 4 hours to negotiate back to what the Toyota special offer was. When the negotiations were done, and at their request, I let them run $500.00 deposit on a credit card. I returned the next day with a cashiers check for the entire price of the deal, and took the truck home.

Unfortunately, they kept that $500.00 deposit for two years despite it being clearly written on the agreement it was a deposit only. For two years Gresham Toyota fought me on the credit card deposit. At one point the general manager said it wasn't worth his time to get the file out to review it. In the end, several calls to Toyota caused them to get out the file, confirm there was an extra 500.00 in the deal, and send me a check. No apology, nothing.

There's an independent repair shop "Japanese Auto Repair" in Portland that gets good reviews, I'm thinking of giving them a try.

I'll give a thumbs-up to the Toy Doctor, in Tualatin.
They specialize in Toyotas but service most makes (taking wife's Honda Pilot there tomorrow for rotors and pads).
Fair prices, they don't up-sell, and Danny communicates very clearly what is wrong, and what your options are for a repair.
