Today was my second time in the Dentist chair in the last two weeks.

First trip was two weeks ago for a root canal, extraction with bone graft, and a crown.

Today was 9 fillings and getting my permanent gold crown placed.

I'm off the hook for another two weeks. I have one more filling, a root canal and a crown. I am trying to buy my last gun or two for the year as I had to pay 50% of the cost for all the work. My insurance only covers 50%. 10.5K and I need to pay it off as fast as possible.

I have been after an AR and was almost able to make a deal with a guy in Lebanon, but yesterday my wife broke her foot and I can't drive that far. And now she can't drive either. So I will be looking local. Mazama's has a good deal on one, and a special edition 10/22 with a 20 inch barrel. So we shall see how things are on payday. Eugene is a 10 minute trip. I could drive that.

I also have more medical appointments at the VA in the next couple of months. It seems that lately, Dr's appointments are all I am able to make it to as I've been so sick.

I missed an opportunity for a Colt series 70 GI type 1911 for $800 bucks new for my son. I have only one more pistol to get I think, and that is going to be an RXM with a threaded barrel. Cascade Farm has them for $429.00.

Dental work can be a real challenge. I've been blessed with decent mouth chemistry and "hard teeth" as my dentist has told me.

When I was younger I had a ton of dental work done including several crowns, which more than 40 years later are still in place and still solid. Now that I've grown older, mostly maintenance at this point, cleanings with the occasional filling.

Good luck in your remaining dental work. Wishing the Mrs. A speedy recovery. Prayers and blessings brother….

Have you ever noticed that they use sharp pointy tools in your mouth, and then tell you that your mouth is bleeding ?

My brothers a dentist, and he does a lot of charity work to give back to the community. The stories he can tell you about meth mouth and so many of the cases he sees, where pulling everything is really the only option, is just wild.

LMK if you need the 'family' discount . . . Lol!

I hate going to the dentist, almost as much as the doctors office.

After all this dental work, grab yourself a water flosser and a sonic toothbrush. Before bed, hit the water flosser, run through a brushing cycle, and then floss. I'm not a dentist or anything, but with that routine, chances are you won't be dealing with more tooth problems.

Back when I was younger, I didn't take care of my teeth the way I should have. But ever since I started doing this, I haven't had any issues—and I honestly can't remember the last time I had a cavity.

Sonic toothbrushes are a godsend. Two minutes morning, noon and night. Does indeed do wonders.

Dental work can be shocking at what it costs. When young went through a time for almost 20 years that did not go to a Dentist except for a couple times with a Wisdom Tooth that had to come out. Clinic run by one of the Catholic Churches was a godsend. Did work free if you could not pay and the bill both times was pennies on the dollar what anyone else would charge. When I got a job with insurance spent a couple years getting work done to catch up and now will hopefully keep the teeth till the end.

My Mom came from a family with 12 kids. My Grandpa worked at the mill in La Grand where the fairgrounds now are. Obviously there
was no money for teeth. Mom had them all pulled at one time at about 40 years old. She was 4', 11'' and I dont think she ever broke
110 lbs. I think of her often. One very tough lady.

Most dental insurance will only pay for about $1K-$2K of work per year, and only for certain things. And that is usually for about that much in premiums. I have about that amount of insurance with Medicare Advantage and I pay an additional ~$1K/yr for a "discount" plan with my dentist which gives me a discount on any non-trivial work (fillings/etc. - I have about 1-2 per year, usually for an old filling that is cracked/etc.) and free quarterly cleanings.
