That was why I spent a couple years with regular appointments when I got back up this way. They would max out my policy every year for a good while. Had (at that time) shockingly good dental coverage through the Union. Each major deal had to be approved but damn if they did not cover a hell of a lot of the bite. With the coverage we have now it pays 100% of preventative. Just so people don't end up like I did all those years ago. Last couple times I needed a crown they paid %50 of those. Of course now days I'm not living so each pay day I ran out of food 2 days before either which is sure nice. Most dental insurance will only pay for about $1K-$2K of work per year, and only for certain things. And that is usually for about that much in premiums. I have about that amount of insurance with Medicare Advantage and I pay an additional ~$1K/yr for a "discount" plan with my dentist which gives me a discount on any non-trivial work (fillings/etc. - I have about 1-2 per year, usually for an old filling that is cracked/etc.) and free quarterly cleanings.
