Went down a youtube wormhole the other day and discovered a cover of Dreams by Van Halen sung by Erik Gronwall. Apparently he got his start singing a cover of Skid Row's song 18 and Life for Swedish variant of American Idol in the early 2000s, then joined and toured with a prominent swedish band called HEAT.

In 2021 he was diagnosed with leukemia and his music career went on hold as he underwent treatment. While recovering he started the youtube channel as an outlet for his musical passions. His cover of 18 and Life brought him to the attention of Skid Row, who has since hired him to replace their departed frontman on their Vegas residency. It's unreal - his career started with singing Skid Row, and now he's their frontman.

Great story and a great voice with some amazing range. What blows my mind is how he emulates the tone of the vocalist he's covering so well. That and the guitarists are phenomenal - the Rainbow in the Dark solo is absolutely insane! Crazy Swedes!

On that note, these are my favorites out of his covers. Cheers, enjoy, and happy Throwback Thursday!
