I support surveillance and facial recognition for LEO use to catch the bad guys. However, the thought that our government, which I do not trust, can use this scares me.
Not to mention child predators and other creeps.
Technology is advancing so quickly and it is mind blowing that someone could simply upload a picture of me to an app and see every picture of me ever shown on the internet along with any comments/information on the link. Add this with cell phone tracking/listening, smart TV monitoring, and all the other stuff monitoring us is scary. Heck, even a smart refrigerator is listening to you! This technology is only to become more advanced and more available to everyone.
Privacy is a thing of the past. Dead and buried.
There is a thread on this and many other forums asking what do you look like and many post their picture. I passed.

This article is worth the read.

I have long had to shake my head at this. There is a LOT of people who take to social media to post everything they do. Then many of them say it's bad they have no privacy??? Then they jump back on the net to post everything they do, while saying they don't like no privacy?? Don't want your info out there? Do not use social media. Worried about the smart phone tracking you? Do not use one. Worried your TV and appliances are "spying on you" ? Do not buy the kind that can. I think tech is great. Many love to use the latest tech while at the same time telling all the sky is falling. There is 300 and some million people in the US. It amazes me how many of them think what they do is so important that there is Gov workers following them around. As if there is a literal army of Gov workers watching them all day. The vast majority of us no one could care less about enough to care. So take to social media and tell the world what you had for dinner:D

While the company was dodging me, it was also monitoring me. At my request, a number of police officers had run my photo through the Clearview app. They soon received phone calls from company representatives asking if they were talking to the media — a sign that Clearview has the ability and, in this case, the appetite to monitor whom law enforcement is searching for.
Yikes.
Because the police upload photos of people they're trying to identify, Clearview possesses a growing database of individuals who have attracted attention from law enforcement. The company also has the ability to manipulate the results that the police see. After the company realized I was asking officers to run my photo through the app, my face was flagged by Clearview's systems and for a while showed no matches. When asked about this, Mr. Ton-That laughed and called it a "software bug."

Keep a richard nixon mask handy and understand that they have all kinds of tech that John Q has no clue about. Think of the implications of Voice to skull comms (sending audible messages via microwave to a target listener that thinks they are hearing voices) This tech was tested in Desert storm and convinced hundreds that allah was telling them to surrender (and they did en masse)

The tech of war that the public knows about is probably 20 years behind what is really available to be used in theater.

I know that not everybody can afford a $25 richard nixon mask, so at least spring $5.00 for the strawberry shortcake mask.

I have posted a couple of shooting pics on this forum. Someone could upload my picture to this app and find them, and then search every post I made here. Your life is an open book for anyone to see.
Even though I don't do Facebook or the other big social media sites, I, like most, are out there somewhere.
Think about a potential employer that you are applying for a job with. Bingo, their security cam snaps your pic when you walk in the door, and they run it and have every social media or forum info that you have ever posted with a pic before the interview is finished.

They would love this one.

I feel sorry for the person that was a porn star in their younger years.

What if you put on some things that change the shape of your face? Like some bandaids, or a big wad of chewing tobacco. Those would change the topograpy of the face being identified, and confuse the recog system.

I dont think the facial mapping would be fooled by make up, it uses the topography and geometry of the face itself in the algorithm. If you alter the contours then it may fool the system.

Holy smokes, hiring crisis actors and paying good money for it too. $250 is shut your mouth money.

"there is a good chance that they're going to use the fake news coverage of this to bring in additional censorship and to attack the President, no matter what he says... Just like they did last time with Charlottesville.

Those cameras are everywhere. Pro-camera folks probably get warm and fuzzy feelings having them around. Look at how much the younger Gen likes to post pics of themselves. Data is the new oil and anywhere they can find it, they will, including from our pics.

Meh.

When out & about just use standard countermeasures:

Not too difficult.

The real tricky part is keeping your vehicle tags swapped. A challenge because of the time involved with making decent copies and making sure the true owner is up to date on reg & such. Then there's the popping front and back on & off. Spring loaded disconnects are super handy here.

Use thermal shielding cover (milsurp sniper Ghillie is really handy in this role) when moving from your decoy vehicle to your secondary DD. Don't slip up when swapping to your primary DD tho. That's how they get most folks. Complacency.

Don't even get me started on not carrying around range pickup brass gleaned from all over the country. I mean, who in there rite mind would opt not to do such? Jeebers.
