I no longer hunt, but when I did hunt, it was for meat - not sport. I always try to be law abiding, but I don't see any "ethical" issue with using NVD or thermal optics. I don't see "fair chance" of "escape" by game when a hunter has a rifle that will reach out to 500 yards.

YMMV.

I understand banning thermal for ordinary hunting, but what about at night for predator/coyote control? Is that banned also?
The only exception is for coons, possums, bobcats or crop damage on private lands, but im not certain if NV is allowed but spotlighting is. I think.

In short, not for coyotes.

just because a rifle will reach out to 500 yards doesn't mean that said hunter can hit with accuracy at that distance. some can of course but most have no business shooting at game at that distance.

500, 50 or 5 yards - the deer that pass by my house have no "fair chance of escape" if I sit on my porch with a scoped rifle.

And it is usually 5 yards. I've had it be 5 feet.

I leave them alone for two reasons; I do not care for venison and if SHTF then I have a better chance of harvesting some meat if the deer think they are safe eating my roses (which they usually are).

I personally do not see the issue with using them on yotes. They are very impressive seeing hunting videos of them in use. If it was legal or not, the animals would be safe from me.... I don't have the time to go anyways! 😆
