I saw a Russian AK with a folding stock in a second hand store when you didn't need a FFL for personal sales. I am still kicking myself for not buying it even though it was in a very used condition.
I was at my local FFL to pickup a Bula M1A right before the ban, when I saw the SKS on the wall, I didn't have the $$ to buy it at the time.

Unfortunately the SKS can no longer be purchased, transferred, or imported into the State of Washington.
Does Washington have ( or had ) gun registration by serial number for long guns before their A.W. ban?

If not, then cash and carry. Or whimper and let the party of Donkeys run roughshod over your personal freedoms.

Until 2014 Kali had Cash & Carry, like many states still do, and once off the books it's best if they stay that way. The issue becomes, in today's world, trust. Hard to put it out there for and unknown weasel. In an old circle of friends, different story. In reality the chances are slim, but the potential worst-case scenario is severe. PAX

After Google search, it seems that Washington state has no registration by serial #, and no reporting of long-guns sales to your local LEO. That being the case, I personally would have no problem selling or giving an SKS ( or any other long gun) to a trusted friend. Especially since Wa. has no paper trail to follow for long gun transfers. The horse is already out of the barn. Cheers!!

You could have "charged" it. It's called priorities. It wasn't important enough for you to obtain it before a certain ban.
I took the opposite approach when I resided in the People's Republic of Kalifornia.

One of the great things about the SKS back in the day is they would shoot the really cheap eastern block ammo and they cost considerably less than an AK.

I love surplus arms for what they are, not what they aren't. The SKS is a really cool weapon for what it is! I missed out on the sub $100 SKS's back in the day and can't foresee paying current prices for one now without the cheap eastern block ammo available. I have an AK to burn through the last 600 - 700 rounds of cheap 7.62x39 that I have left. But if I found a decent SKS at a decent price I would most likely have to pick it up just for nostalgia if nothing else.

Some people appreciate the classic weapons for what they are. Others want to compare them to modern weapons and for them the classics will fall short of their modern expectations.

If I found a Rasheed I would definitely have to pick it up to go with my Hakim and AG42 even though an SKS is a superior weapon to the Rasheed in most ways and they shoot the same ammo.

I picked up an SKS paratrooper a few months ago for $390 on consignment at an LGS. When you factor in inflation from 40 years ago, it is about the same as the $100 gun back then. The ammo is somewhat more money now than back then ( 7c per round back then) but then again that was for crappy corrosive, berdan primed Chinese steel case crap. I have been able to buy case Qtys. fairly recently of reloadable boxer primed, brass case Belom tactical, PPU ammo for 50c to 60c per round delivered.
I can live with that. And the SKS is just as Fun and accurate as it was 40 yrs ago.

I got this guy out of CO, KSI Hunter, in December '23 for $450 + a GEW88.
