Tested various types of ammo for my AR.

· 1:8 twist, 18-inch Wylde stainless steel, fluted barrel fitted with a Tanker compensator from Mid State Firearms
· Velocity 3# Trigger
· Gen2 PMags each loaded with 5 rounds each and fired in the same clockwise order by 3 shooters
· Distance = 50 yards
· 3-9X by 40mm Vortex Crossfire II scope

12 o'clock = Federal 5.56 55GR XM193 Ball

3 o'clock = Fiocchi 223 55GR

6 o'clock = Wolf Polyformance 223 55GR

9 o'clock = Federal 5.56 62GR Green Tip XM855

Center = Remington 223 55GR

Fiocchi performed the best.

It's always fun to get out and shoot with friends. Next time maybe stretch its legs a little bit and try 100 yards. A good 18" barreled AR is generally good for about 1 MOA at 100... A really good AR is capable of sub moa 10 shot groups at 100.. Glad you could get out and do some shooting. We are still snowed in here, on the east end of the Gorge...

Hmm. That (X)M855 looks extremely wonky. It's generally accepted that a 1 in 8 twist ought to be fine for stabilizing 62g pills.

Perhaps there is some merit to the (X) denoting Mil-Spec rejects.

Have you tried going with heavier bullets?

I have a Sig MCX 18 inch 1:8 barrel and it hates anything under 68 grains. I'm working out which it likes more; Sierra 77gr TMK or Hornady 80gr ELD match.I'm getting around 1 inch at 100 yards and regularly slapping a 12 inch gong at 500. Still working on what powder it likes; HATES varget, CFE 223 is best so far, AR comp not bad, TAC is a little better than Varget.

My son and his friend both have Sig 556 rifles and they get about the same results.
