The title tells you all you really need to know - the previous device had the scope set about 3/8" to the right - not a problem, since no matter what distance you were shooting at, the POI remained the same. Please ignore the dioptre foresight - I leave it on no matter what I'm shooting as I only have the one K31 for all the different 'comps' I shoot. I DO remove it for the iron sights only match, not shot here now for over three years.... :( This scope is a 1950's K4 Weaver of astonishing clarity - for $25 in a jun- antique shop in Wheeler. :)

However, I recently received a nice shiny new over-bore mount from my good friends in Kalispell, so I though I'd let the vacillators see what they are missing out on. The mounts are 1" Hawke model 23010, low mount QR with an old Weaver 6-9x40 scope of astonishing clarity, given its age - in excess of fifty years. Please note that apart from being a grateful sometime customer of Swiss Products, I have no other connection with them.

Is this the one that takes airgun sized scope mounts? I have one of those but have never put it on. I think it looks like that but I'd have to check. Can't remember. Maybe it's offset version? Pic of the rifle just for fun.

The original version DOES use an 11mm wide - rimfire/air rifle - mount. And yes, it IS offset 3/8" to the right of the bore. As it is parallel, that doesn't matter a hoot, especially at 500 - 600 yards - it's STILL 3/8" off.

The new one is sold as a complete package for $145.00, but it you read the blurb there's a deal there, too. It uses a full-size Weaver/Picatinny rail and will take a truck mounted in suitable ring - the material from which it is made is seriously tough, and the deep sub-surface anodising process used by SW ensures that it's way harder even that steel. Obviously, the finishing process is commercially protected, but my old unit - over ten years old new, has been around the block a few times in the arena of hard knocks, and there is not a single mark on it anywhere - it truly looks just like new.

My advice is to take up Latigo on his offer, mentioned in the advertisement on the excellent web-site. And if you do make contact, tell him I sent you.

I bought the original mount and even 3/8" inch to the right was difficult to use, so I bought the piece to put the scope over the bore and I like it a lot better. Only issue I have is that the empty cartridges don't eject well even with the sheet metal deflector. Using an an old Bushnell scope.

I noticed the k31s with original scope are offset to the left. The sniper gun (can't remember the name, the one that is like $5000) had the scope centered over the bore, but the entire action was rotated to the right to allow use of stripper clip(charger I assume). Pretty wild.

From forgotten weapons videos. K31 with scope:

Yes, the *ZfK55 is the made-as-a-sniping rifle. If you can find one for $5000, buy it. NOW!

Not interested in that gun at all. The reason is simply value/opportunity cost. Not due to the gun. It's a cool gun.

Same reason I don't buy some high value luger. I appreciate the gun but it's not worth that $ to me. I would rather buy 8-10 really cool, good quality, and high value guns for the same amount of money total. I see many of those sniper rifles listed today for $5500.
