Yeah, the only thing that year in jail is going to do is provide the guy with more business contacts. However, let's lay this one squarely at the feet of the prosecution, not the judge.Obviously the courts aren't interested in stopping crime. At least, not with a sentence like that.
According to the news article, the sentencing judge was forced to work with the only charge remaining after the plea agreement negotiations. In this case, prosecutors allowed the (politically privileged?) SOB to plead guilty to "one count of making a false statement to a licensed firearms dealer".
From 41 counts down to just one? That's some tough as nails negotiating! Real world perspective, now: Wouldn't you just love to have that defense attorney negotiate an equivilent 97.6% price reduction for your next new truck?
