There is a very important point to remember here.

It is better to have dirty water then no water.

If you save up a few thousand gallons of water and then something happens and your house, community or city looses water, you can then treat the water to make it drinkable. The most important thing to do here is have the water and a way to treat it when and if the need arises. Having water that has been treated now is fine. But have some.

Better to have some then none at all.
