Welcome my Southern brother, I made my truck to Washington back in 85 & have never left. But then again I live in rural Washington, may have been another outcome if I was a city dweller..... just sayin....

Always nice to have more southerners move up here - they are generally good folks trying to get away from the idiocy around them.

Dated a gal from Gonzales. One time while visiting her, she had to work late one night. I decided to walk down to the local bar and have a couple beers. Left her a note on the counter (this was before cell phones were everywhere) and started walking. Got to the bar and asked for a beer, sat and started sipping while watching the game on the TV. The entire place got a little more quite and was that way for quite a while. Everyone was real stand-off'ish.
She showed up in the middle of my second beer and walked directly to the bartender and started talking with him. He got her a drink and she walked over to me. Big hug & kiss and sat down next to me. We finished our drinks and she says "lets get out of here".
I asked if everything was alright. She mentioned that the bartender was having a hard time keeping everyone in the bar under control. Something that I was oblivious to, as I didn't hear or see anything "weird". She said that after she arrived she told the bartender (who was a friend of hers) that I was with her. She made it a point to walk up to me in front of everyone and give me a hug and kiss - to show everyone that everything was OK.
I guess she got home, read my note, called the bar then rushed over there. She was shocked to still find me in there.
I was later told that outsiders aren't too welcome around there and have been known to visit (escorted by the locals) the area swamps, never to be seen again. I was there only because she had talked to the bartender before i arrived in town, and told him that her "boy friend" was going to be coming to visit. When I got to the bar he guessed that was me.
Plus, I hadn't started anything and was very pleasant minding my own business enjoying a cold beer.
Scared the heck out of me when she told me all of this.
