:s0051::s0016::s0075:This is a deal breaker for me, Ads popping up are one thing, I can ignore them. I get the revenue stuff, but ads that continue popping up WITH SOUND!! WON'T DO. I don't know how to turn them off and I shouldn't have to. It is a site killer for me. One other forum and two news sites I no longer visit have the same thing. That's not only invasive and distracting but just plain rude!!!
Tell me you enjoy being constantly interrupted when you are speaking or reading. Not likely.
If it keeps up, I am gone.:s0016::s0117::s0154:
I wondered how long before the quest for money would overshadow content. I am sadden it has come to this. Looks like we are on the precipice of another good thing being destroyed by greed and commercialism.

If every member made donations and supported the sight financially, maybe the ads wouldn't be as necessary.... It takes money to run and maintain this sight.
@thorborg, maybe you should become a supporting member?

That is a noble but unlikely thought. I don't have a problem with ads. I still buy magazines that are 75% ads with tons of crap that fall to the floor when you open them though they irritate me. The volume and quality of the people visiting this site (paid members or not) are what make this site work AND what I was told was the prime directive.
It is not my project Joe can do what he wants.
If myself, and people like me are to be considered cheap bastards and of no value to this site then so be it. But when I leave this site for good any reasonable business man might want to know why.
Now you know.
Just writing this the page has been hijacked five times

First of all I never called you a cheap bastard, however your comment that "quest for money overshadow content" was extreme. It takes MONEY to run a sight, I have never witnessed Joe trying to make this sight a cash cow. I was suggesting that maybe you would want to support the sight so less ads are necessary? Or you could try a different browser. Others have noted that Firefox works well. There are also numerous ad blockers available. Either way, blessings to you.

Turn off Javascript in your browser.

ALL those annoying popups and useless muck are Javascript applets. Turning off Javascript, you will also notice that almost all web sites load and run much faster.

I find about 95% of the web sites I hit do not need Javascript to function and display properly. On the sites that need it, I just turn Javascript on to access and then off again when I leave. Easy-peasy.

I will assume you're not using MS Internet Explorer, which makes it horribly onerous to turn off Javascript. But most people who surf the net with MS-IE are too brain-damaged to care about popups anyway, so we need not worry about them.

To turn off Javascript in the latest versions of Mozilla Firefox (my preferred browser) you have to download an add-on like SettingSanity. It's simple, quick, effective and free.

FYI, earlier versions of Firefox allowed a simple click switch to turn off the accursed Javascript. But about a year ago, at the behest of the popup ad spammer-mongers, Mozilla decided to shove Javascript and its cascade of garbage down everyone's throat, by removing the "Disable Javascript" switch. Fortunately downloading the SettingSanity add-on restores your switch.

Too many folks enjoying the gittin side nowadays while the rest pay the bills.

There is a price to pay for everything....even when one prefers the gittin' side.

I haven't seen any of these "sound on" ads on this site - I've seen them many other places, but never on NWFA. No problem here.

And regarding ads on this site - it is so mild on NWFA compared to many other sites. I see no problem with them here whatsoever. I'm surprised that Joe doesn't have more on here in all honesty.

I run a site with similar traffic or maybe a little more and a semi dedicated server to handle the traffic ....and it cost $3500 just for hosting

EVERY CLICK YOU MAKE ON THE INTERWEBS COST SOMEONE ELSE ;) get Ghostery (the browser addon) to block popup ads stop trackers etc etc.....you need a condom for the WHOLE WEB you cant blame one site for your inconvenience its EVERYWHERE

or better yet do YOUR part and click on those ads occasionally that help pay for this site

With a firefox based browser (cyberfox), I don't see any ads whatsoever, and currently cyberfox doesn't run/install javascript by default, or it's heavily controlled. And yes, if you can chip in some money, that can help all around.
Firefox has a bunch of useful 'add-ons' that give a lot of relief from stuff you don't want or need.

My issues are not ubiquitous. Tons of websites do not have aggressive ads.
When found, I chose not to participate in those internet areas that are obnoxious..
The application of a program to rid myself of the aggressive ads hurts everyone. It denies me choice, denies vendors access to me and hurts the forum by making ad's all or nothing for those who use that option.
The non active ads were not a problem. I have viewed some. With the addition of the ad blocker, I would not have opened them nor Joe received value from that.
Choices of what type of ads are placed in this web site have been made. They are a choice.
The crappy part is I really like this site, I did what I could ad wise and helped with sanctioned shooting area clean up's as able. Obviously not good enough for some.
If that is what it takes to continue here;
So be it, with the installation of an ad blocker, I now have let another company have access to my online presence, limited my ability to assist in Joe's business, closed access to many potential vendors and vise versa.
I have made a choice, albeit I'm not smiling.
I would rather the choice was made to not accept active and aggressive ads on this site.
Now all the courteous ads will not garner my attention and irrevocable for me.
I hope somehow there is value in that.

Maybe related, or maybe not.

I was trying to view NWFA yesterday when every page I looked at started freezing up within a minute of logging on, and then displaying the Security Alert shown below. Was it from pop-up ads? The NWFA site itself? Couldn't get rid of it fast enough as it kept renewing itself, and it even blocked me from logging off a few times.

Didn't happen on any other visited sites. Luckily, it doesn't seem to be doing it today. Hope I didn't jinx myself right now by saying that...
