Traveling today and saw this (see photo below). It's my first trip by myself, maybe I hadn't noticed.Quite frightening! I'm glad my son gave my car back to me, but feel kinda guilty for not dieing on schedule. The higher gas gets, the happier I am to drive an EV.

Well...
In light of current events...not surprised..
Don't like it.....but not surprised.

Showing my age a bit, but when I started driving gas was 21¢ per gallon, and they pumped it, cleaned your windshield, checked your oil, and tires PLUS you got a place setting of 'fine china.'
Ok, they were just plates, but they were free and eventually you had the entire set.

I remember gas in 08/09 being a hair under $5/gal and people crying then, too. Apparently $5 in 08 had as much buying power as about $7.50 today so really by proportion gas is cheaper. Just doesn't feel that way. We made it through that one, we'll make it through this one. And the next one and the one after that, too.

I remember that also, my son-in-law got a fantastic deal on a 34' Donzi with 3 blown big block Chevy engines. I think he said that premium at the marina was nearly $8. I tried to tell him that wasn't really a great deal, but it's what he wanted. I suggested something he could afford to operate like a nice pocket cruiser sail boat, but what did I know? My dad made almost the same mistake 60 years earlier with an WW2 surplus PT boat. I only remember going out once on it. No room, damn near all fuel tanks, but boy what a noise it made. I can just imagine what something like that would cost to operate today. Actually I can't even imagine that.

1946 is the last recorded .21 gallon of gas.

Minimum wage 1946( federal)
.40 hr.

Roughly 2 gallons of gas for one hour of unskilled, entry level labor.

Federal minimum wage 2026
7.25 hr.
National average price for regular gas
3.79

No matter where you go.

There you are.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Looks like you found the Crescent City surcharge. The gas prices there are always sky high.

When I started driving I was making 1.05/hr and a gallon of gas was .50. Basically 1.25 days untaxed pay to fill my tank.

Today, I can fill my tank on about 40 minutes pay. At 3.25/gallon, I could fill both vehicles for just about an hours pay.

Everything's relative…

I'm 36, from which I remember my high school job was $8.65 an hour. Joined the Service in 2009 at 19. I never got to see gas less than a dollar a gallon. WA gas tax here is insane.
Yup.
Tax fuel.
Tax silver and gold ( which, apparently isn't currency in WA).
Tax properties.
Tax wealth.
Tax income.
Tax consumer goods at point of sale.

Never enough for the socialist machine.
