Currently in the HPA they are considered firearms so just a 4473. In free states you would be able to build a supressor with no additional paperwork.

Does anyone know how 114 will affect suppressor purchases if they become 4473 items? Are they going to be subject to the permit to purchase scam?

Solvent traps converted into suppressors with an approved Form 1 are absolutely fine and legally the same as a Form 4 suppressor purchased from any manufacture
Illegal stuff is illegal but in this Pre-HPA world Form 1 'solvent traps' are not illegal

ah, I see the point now.
Just me, but if I'm going to get a legal suppressor I'm not going to modify a solvent trap. Are they even just as quiet/effective? Most people arent machinists or have such equipment to precisely drill the hole in the cap. I suppose it might be way cheaper to mod the cap if one is clever enough to fixture up on a drill press maybe? But then my question comes back to how effective a solvent trap compared to an actual suppressor?

Depends in large part what you call a "solvent trap" because even if you are talking about the stuff from china you can get some very usable parts

Regardless of the $200 tax stamp gatekeeping the poors; FFLs need to re-visit their ridiculous $100+ transfer fees since a lot of approvals are now being counted in hours and not months. Takes up less safe space then firearms but I don't know the difference in insurance between the two types.

Except hes a machinist, with a full machine shop. And spent quite a bit of time modifying his cheap china parts project.

A Solvent Trap is just that, its sold as a hollow tube, thread adapter and a cap on the end intended to drill out to caliber size if you want to turn it all into a suppressor.

I'm just talking about the average person... could probably drill out an end cap well enough on center but then its just a hollow tube. And from what I read in your link it doesn't suppress the sound as good as an actual suppressor.

With the k style baffle supression is on par with commercial cans, freeze plugs are still hearing safe and with enough volume can be quiet.

Nothing that he did could not be done with a handheld drill and some drill bits
I think the real issue here is that you don't really know what "solvent trap" is, but if you are concerned about the "average person" there is always the 'no drill' option

It's the "storage cups" that make solvent traps quite and where solvent traps become supressor parts. You can make a 3d printed jig to drill storage cups/ freeze plugs to an acceptable level of accuracy with a hand drill. There are also 3d printed press dies to cone out the freeze plugs.

There used to be many, many more and some of the ones you see up right now are Zombie Sites or (it has been alleged) ATF Honey Pots. There are 'parts' available on some of the overseas Amazon alternatives but if you try to buy them you either get a "will not ship to your area" alert or it has been reported that the package is delivered by a guy in Foster Grant sunglasses

yeah, I wouldn't even attempt to order one now. Thats why I joked above about being on a watchlist for buying a "solvent trap". "joked but not joked..." lol.
