Nobody cares about your crap and it'll either be thrown away or sold when you die anyway... Especially your guns.

My wife says I need to declutter. We listened to a Jordan Peterson talk on letting go of stuff the other day and it was really well presented. He put a lot of thought into the psychology of keeping things you don't need. It's worth a listen.

What she doesn't know is that the next day I was invited to walk through the garage of a deceased family member and take anything I wanted. Well I filled the trunk and back seat of a car that I'm picking up on Monday with treasures. She'll get over it eventually, I got some stuff for her too!

"You" need to declutter but ostensibly she contributed to the clutter, so...

Starting small. My Son came down today and we spent a couple hours chatting and going thru stuff. I wasn't feeling good so short visit but I sent him home with my Chain saw and the CZ 527 .223 Varmint gun.

Im going through this with my parents this very minute... both in their late 70's. We finally got mom (brain damage from strokes) in memory care a couple months ago with dad fighting against us tooth and nail... we literally just got dad (who has advancing dementia and is diabetic) moved into an assisted living 1 bedroom apartment facility that's across the street from where mom is at.... BOTH of them are stubborn AF!

We're trying to get the house they've been renting for the last couple years cleaned out... piles upon piles of STUFF, ranging from 20-30 DVD/VCR players, 14-20 computer mother boards, must have 12 sets of old cordless phone sets from years gone by... tax documents going back well into the 80's, piles upon piles of old canned food, etc, etc, etc....

My mother was a hoarder, and my hedonist (F 'em and feed 'em beans) dad has run their finances into the ground and there's a 10' deep smoking crater left... so we have to sort through their stuff for "estate sale", trash pile, and donation piles.... it's overwhelming.
That sucks man! Been there done that with the grandparents on my mom's side in 2015, cleaned out a 3,200 Sq' house FULL of shiet all the way back from their move from barnsville Ohio in the 40's. They had grain bin barrels that were filled with fabric scraps and newspapers. The papers were from D-day and V-day 1944-45 none of the bins had been opened since then. Kind of sad to be hauling all kinds of stuff around and never even touch it.

All the dreams that people build, and then never live in them....

After we finish going through our stuff, which is going quite well mind you, our kids will have it easy but they'll have to travel to Florida to get the good stuff. Guns, reloading, woodworking stuff and our large stack of vinyl records… :p

I've got telephone cable splicing tools that I made my living while contracting for 20+ years that I can't sell. The industry has changed to fiber optics and there isn't a need for copper splicing tools anymore. 🥸

I miss @salmonriverjohn. He was an old salt copper splicer too. 🙁
We still use existing copper infrastructure, we've been installing Ethernet over copper on it.
3M stopped making UR and UY butts, and punch blocks are getting nearly impossible to find. We have to buy 3M splice closures on eBay.

A few years ago I went to Graybar to buy a butt set. The person behind the counter had a really confused look on his face..... Turns out they still had Fluke butt set, just no one asked for one in a long time.
