I feel like I did pretty good for someone who had never shot an AR and hadn't sighted in a rifle in at least 10 years.

Photo is the last 20 rounds of 60 I shot in total. Took a little bit to get on paper after eyeball boresighting and then a little longer to remember how directions work.

All at about 50yds (maybe a little short, my strides are close enough to a yard for the weather I was in), handguard supported position. The three corners were at 6x magnification, the center was at 1x.

Nice...going off the bottom left, looks to be a solid 2moa gun, plenty good for an "average" AR. People on the net always get hung up on tiny groups...they are a massed produced product shooting mass prioduced ammo...I'll take 2-3 MOA all day long, it will do what it's needed to do.

What rifle, optic, and load did you use?

What did you end up getting?
I wound up buying from B. Kings, one of their BKF-15s. The one I got was a V2 premium ultralight, so magpul furniture, ambi charging handle and safety, pencil 4150 barrel. I found a killer deal on a Vortex Venom 1-6 with their sport mount and Venom 3moa enclosed red dot. I didn't try to sight the dot in yet. I was using the Bi-Mart sale special PMC X-tac 55gr.

Honestly, I think it could be more accurate than that with some better ammo, conditions, and a more competent/practiced set of thumbs running it. I'm sure I'll eventually find somewhere to shoot further and push for a smaller group for the fun of it. I was pretty excited by the time that I got to the bottom left (it was the third group at 6x magnification) then to put those three overlapped on the center dot at 1x was the "end on a win" moment for the day. All 4 groups are 5 rounds, probably should have mentioned that before.

For zeroing in its all about the shooting position, a benchrest with sandbags or front rest is ideal. Out in the woods its more difficult without the solid benchrest but can be done prone or with a portable shooting bench if its a good one.

I had a plastic folding table, a pretty cheap front rest that I added some furniture leg rubber to so it didn't slide around, and a basic folding camp chair. Better than nothing, but certainly not the preferred set up for accuracy. 🤣

You thought to bring something so your way ahead of many people who get out there with nothing but the hood of their truck to shoot from.
With practice its possible to get good groups from a folding table and camp chair, weigh down the table if you can, if its wobbly try "front loading" it (like what people do with bipods) by pushing forward when aiming to take up the play. I like to put a piece of heavy paper in the cradle of the cheap front rests, so the rifle moves straight back under recoil as it should, instead of grabbing the rest and causing it to move with it.
If you plan to shoot a lot or regularly, a range membership is ideal but were blessed here with lots of public land thats for free and theres something about just being out there in the woods thats nice too.
