It tells me, public safety is a political tool and shows how little politicians care about public safety. The odds this was the first illegal act of the killer is zero. The number of mass shootings could be near zero if the courts simply did there jobs. The prisons wouldn't be over filled if criminals knew where their life would end.

Oh, I've got to disagree with that. We would be overflowing, and criminals would have to be released for quite awhile I would think. Just in the last four years there has to be hundreds of crim's arrested, not put in jail, and still commiting crimes. HELL! They built a $6,000,000.00 prison and NEVER USED IT! Ended up selling that un-used prison for a million and change I think!

Watched all that go down too. One problem is jail/prison is way too comfortable. For a thug doper on the street, a night in jail is AC/heated room and a hot meal, and out the next day, so bonus! In fact, for many years now, Oregon Govs have snubbed their nose at the voters who okayed capital punishment. That kind of stink just rolls down hill, into revolving doors at the jail and rap sheets longer than an arm. But now Oregon is tough on drugs all of the sudden. Spare me. Jail is now more of an overnight halfway house. I wonder which bold, pioneering politician will call for a special city/county/state tax to cover these additional costs.

Rhetorical question, right? An afraid populace is much more likely to allow increased taxation for (a false sense of) security. In addition to the elimination, bit by bit, of our constitutional rights. Criminals are now very, very useful idiots, just like the homeless, and just like illegals. Just my opinion of course.
