This suggestion is coming from your comment that you didn't know what Glock MOS is.

Spend some time spent at a range that rents service appropriate firearms. (Glocks, Sigs, S&W, & others)

In the PDX area, you could rent most current service pistols at Clackamas County Public Safety Training Center, or in Vancouver, WA, Safefire has a good selection. There are other ranges in the area so spending time finding a trustworthy firearm model would be a good investment.

Good luck!

It's not about your justification. Wasn't this thread about a rent a cop getting a piece ? Moral of the story is get a Glock.🤣
Which is why I prefaced with "new", anyone would be hard pressed to argue against a used/LE trade in G17 Gen3 for an excellent low budget option. I'd throw another $40 at it and replace all the springs and high wear items.

Some disjointed thoughts....

Glock 19 or a (model) 45. Its the easy button. You can get mags anywhere, there's a ton of aftermarket support, can get them worked on anywhere, and they're cheap.

You're going to beat the everloving crap out of it, so don't go by your grail gun or any other fantasy gun you've been pining over.

Sig226, is nice but expensive. Expensive mags, support Etc.
Sigs in general are good, but stay away from the 320 line.
M&P, very meh but they're a duty gun.

Stay away from CZ, Walther, Ruger, HK, and most of the other recommendations people here have given you. They may be good guns, but they're not duty guns. A good, legitimate duty holster will be much more difficult to find for them, and that's a big one.

Duty holsters for Glock, Sig, and M&P, you'll have a much easier time finding. Blumenthal's, Blue Line, and many gun stores carry them. And the main duty holster brand is Safariland.

Friends don't let friends by Serpa holsters. Period. Stay far away.

I agree with you on Ruger, but Safariland makes legit duty rigs for all CZ, Walther & HK worth duty carry.

True that, those things are garbage.

I agree with the others about Glock. Also it was wisely said by someone above that its grip angle may not work for everyone. My suggestion is go to safe fire and try out any that seem to fit the bill. You can try out all of them you want in an hour for a flat rate. I would not alter it if it's a Glock, or any other gun really, in your situation.

Scroll down on this page to see what they have to rent:

If you want to CC off duty with the same gun get a G19 Gen 5, if not go with a G45. The big decision is whether you settle for the MOS or be patient and eat the cost of a direct cut. I'd tend to go with the latter.
The Glockstore does a 10day turn-a-round for cuts ($200 +/- ). send in with your optic of choice and they will mountit for you. 2 weeks beginning to end

No doubt CZ, HK, Walther are duty grade guns, but as a first timer getting into duty guns/gear, you gonna have issues getting what you want or need. You're much better off going Glock, Sig, or M&P to start.

Thanks for info everyone. Gives me a better idea of what to look for.
Jusy go to to Oregon Rifleworks. They are the Glock Blue label distributer, and carry CZ, HK, pretty much everything that has been recommended here. They also have a ton of police trade ins, so you'll save yourself money over ordering online.
