I must admit I've never heard of a couple of these brands (e.g. Nosler, Barnes) and have been relying on Hornady Critical Duty for 9mm, and Hornady Critical Defense for .45 ACP.

You have never heard of Nosler or Barnes in general or as loaded ammo? Nosler has been making premium bullets since 1948 and Barnes since 1932.

As the article states they are new to the ammunition game though.

None of those would be my first choice based on lack of actual data.

I'd stick with Federal HST, Winchester Ranger or Speer Gold Dot. In a pinch the Hornady Critical Duty is a good choice and available at stores like Bi-mart.
