It might be a fair stretch of the imagination that this falls under "general firearm discussion".
Many of us are concerned about security, what we disclose about ourselves, our collections, our use of those tools. If I go shooting, I like to do it privately.

IF YOU OWN AN ANDROID PHONE AND HAVEN'T CHANGED ANY SETTINGS, KNOW THAT YOU ARE BEING TRACKED.

Every now and then, I see evidence of this tracking, but don't really care about it. I'm a good sheep, pay my taxes, care about my community and behave respectfully. Hence, I don't think I need to watch my back from entities that do track. On the positive side, google maps gives me accurate traffic information and ETA calculations based on all the other drivers on the road.

However, I recently had to recover my password for the guest network at a user's facility. I noted my Android device automatically logged in, but my laptop did not have any of this info. So I looked up "recover your password on android". Sure I got my password back, but what I saw gave me pause.

Every trip I have taken in the last 18 months was there. Every flight, every stop, where I got gas, etc, down to the duration in minutes. It was uncanny. What I found of particular interest was a time I was in Idaho, when I had time during a weekday to go visit gunshops. Each stop I made was there. I wonder if it even had data links to the purchases I made at those shops?

If you want to look at your own history, go to Welcome to My Activity.

It also states that you are the only one who can see your activity.

Google also uses this for your security. If a login from an unknown location happens, I'm alerted.

Nobody cares that they are being tracked daily. Where you surf the web, what you buy, where you go, the things you subscribe to... While that might have been hip and bleeding edge back in the 2000's, it's now just routine. We happily pay telecom's hundreds of dollars per month to monitor our activities. You think you're free, right? We have been conditioned to just go about our business, nothing to see here as long as we have our smart phones. Nothing to see here, just move along.
AI is coming in strong and fast. Internet of Things...more than just a buzzword. Nobody seems to be concerned. Eventually, everything about you will be tied up through AI. This daily gathering of every little tidbit of info that you scatter about as you go through your day will be presented to you at some point. There you will stand in front of an AI panel. The panel will say, "State your name". Then your entire life as AI has gathered it will be presented to you, and all you will be required to say is "guilty" or "not guilty". Then AI will dole out its judgement.
We will eventually put so much trust in AI that it will be trusted enough to be judge, jury and executioner.
Sadly, some of you can't wait. They are happily guided through modern life by TPTB.

IBM and Watson are big into AI and the Internet of things.... One day all your household appliances will be telling your doctors what your consuming.

They even demo'd an intelligent toilet seat that would analyze your waste and forward the information to your medical
providers, all in the name of preventative medicine...

As for me I'll keep repairing my stupid appliances and my '68 Nova...

If you aren't paying for a service you are the product.

Slightly off-track, but maybe not......

What about all those "bots" , like "Google Bot" that you see logged onto sites (like this one).... are they capable of "mining" all the information in a site ? IE...threads, "private messages", the "show us your guns thread", personal contact information embedded in your profile, your ISP ID.....ETC......

The last time I seen a homeless broad crap in the middle of the busiest street in the world in broad daylight (bear with me here, what with all the filters and all), something kinda clicked with me what with all this "tracking" shenanigans. I think I yawn regularly.

OK second hand third hand
The other day a guy told me he heart on Fox tv that if you buy stuff on line, some purchases may be kept record of since you used your CC.
I personally didn't hear this story.
*** The government is doing this,as the story was told to me***
